Problem: My Laptop makes a buzzing/static noise

Recently, a friend of mine dropped a softball onto my laptop where the sound card is located and now there's an annoying buzzing sound that comes out of my speakers. I'm sure the problem is with the sound card and not the speakers.
You still can hear sound from a mp3 but on top of that there's a loud buzzing noise.
For the computer experts, have you seen such a problem before?
If not, any advice on what I should try to fix this?
My sound card is integrated to the motherboard, so replacing just the sound card would be costly, because I would have to buy the motherboard which is around $300.

I did just order one off ledshoppe.com, BUT I would rather have this fixed because I won't be able to use the speakers in my laptop and it would be very inconvenient to carry around external speakers.

Could it possibly be an easy fix? maybe I have to solder a little piece back on that broke?

If you lower the volume to MIN, is there still the sound? Sounds like the ball hit a pin and its shorting, something is being gounded through the card.

yes, there's still the buzzing sound. i'm going to try to take out my mobo out now! tried to last time but it was so hard to pull it out and i was scared to break something..wish me luck!

any tutorials out there as to how to take out the mobo of a compaq presario laptop? thanks
