fido sucks... dont go with them... yeah sure their plans are a bit cheaper than rogers and telus... but their customer service is HORRENDOUS.... i've been over charged on my account several times and it was such a headache to get it fixed everytime... and in general i find their CS to be just unmotivated to help

when i was with rogers i didn't have any customer service issues at all...

i have been with fido for about 3 Years NEVER had a problem with them. Customer Service was and is great. Network coverage is great (same as Rogers now) They have been very good to me getting things done right away for me.

Maybe you just have bad luck? I know other people who are with fido and they love it also.

As for your question, usually closer to x-mas you tend to get better deals especially on phones and so on, you might want to wait.

Ciao

it's not just me.... a actually 3 of my friends even WORK for fido and they tell me how crap the CS is compared to rogers.

one nice advantage of the mismanagement at fido though is that if you're a little late with payments they don't really penalize you... hell they don't even notice half the time...

I also would not recommend going with Fido. What's written on a signed contract means nothing to them.

Rogers gives you much better coverage over the Toronto-Montreal corridor.

Rogers gives you much better coverage over the Toronto-Montreal corridor.

Fido was bought by Rogers.. so they share coverage.. ie: any Rogers coverage IS Fido coverage also.

While that's mostly true, Fido charges extra for areas outside of Toronto.

I have never been a Fido customer, but I can tell you their network sucks. I call friends on Fido and sometimes the call gets dropped. Sometimes the network is busy.

Rogers may own Fido but they are not sharing the networks. I think you have to pay extra to get on Roger's network.

If you want cheap, then go Fido, if you want reliability go Rogers. Either way, in the end. Teddy gets all the money.

why is everyone avoiding the question? the op is asking for recommendations on which phone to get, I recommend the Motorola V360 or the Sony W300i. but the V360 is my preference. Go for it

Sorry, he did ask about the phone. He also asked about better deals during Christmas time. Looks like he already decided on Fido.

Fido always offered more than Rogers. Too bad the service is so crappy.

thx for your replies everyone....
Im with telus and those fukers are lying to my face about my bill/statement, they didn't send my statement for the past 4 months and now they are telling me i called them to cancel my statement and thats bullshi t. so in return i asked for credit for nokia 6265i (new fone thy got) and he says sign one year contract and i will give you the phone for $150. The plan i got from is the fido plan few years ago, $45+tax etc and 350 local minutes and 250 ld....

should i stay or what should i do for the free phone i want. Don't really want to sign thier contract.

It really depends on your usage. If you need all those minutes and the long distance, then $45 is not bad.

But you can get cheaper plans with a decent amount of minutes.

Get the phone you really want. If you go GSM, there are many sources for phones. Telus and Bell sticks you with whatever they are offering.

fido user here,

for those that know, yes they do use the same network now... rogers and fido... the 'extended' network is coverage that fido never had for coverage before (ie: outside cities, the montreal/toronto corridor, etc.) they're not going to have redundant towers to separate the 2 networks... like in any merger may it be a business or the physical cellular towers, to create efficiency, some things are kept, some are cut... but the end result is a much better network overall for both companies

Actually, your a little incorrect, Extended network is fido network inside the fido footprint which uses Rogers AND fido sites, which doesnt matter anymore, since all the sites have been integrated into rogers sites, but the footprint is still called extended. ExPanded is using cellsites OUTSIDE of fidos ORIGINAL footprint, ie if you go up to wasaga beech or orilia, fidos network never went that far so you will be on fidos EXPANDED network. same with toronto to ottawa/montreal corridor, you will be using the expanded network in the middle of your trip, since fidos origional network never reached that far.

I was a FIDO member for 9+ years and never had any problems. Their per second billing was awesome. The only reason I switched to Rogers was because they had a corporate plan to offer me, which made things a lot cheaper (especially with the 15% bundling).

FIDO CS may not bend over as easily on "threats" to leave, but they will quickly fix any other problems you have.

Phone wise, I love my Motorola V360. Using one of my mp3s from my music collection for a ring tone. Buy a 512MB MicroSD card from a store (it only supports up to 512MB), and it acts as a removable drive when you connect it.

It connects to the EDGE network, so great call quality and transfer speeds.

If you want battery life go with the V360, I had it myself too. If you want looks and willing to charge your phone every night go with the 6126.

Apparently Fido's CS has gone downhill since you've left.

I used to be a FIDO customer.
I travelled in the Toronto Montreal corridor maybe 3 times while I was a customer.
Pretty scary if you have car problem and need to call a tow truck or CAA.

I switched to Rogers because of my corp plan
FIDO tried everything to keep me, I told them unless you can match what the corp plan is offering then maybe. But even they were baffled at what my plan was offering. So they just thanked me for being a very long loyal customer and that was it.

FIDO's CS wait time has grown from 30secs to 5 mins since when I joined FIDO which was 6 years.

FIDO is not bad, still per sec billing. But I'm on per second billing at Rogers too.

The plans are probably going to stay put.

However, you're probably going to be able to get some better handsets for free on 3-year contract come Christmas time.
