Sympatico Wireless?

Hey computer people. Does anyone here have sympatico wireless internet? I just ordered it and I was wondering if it could be installed and used immediately or are there extra things you have to buy that aren't included like hardware or software?

if it helps we're trying to connect 2 computers, a ps2, and wireless for a PSP and Nintendo DS.

I woulda posted on the bell.ca boards but I can't log on for some reason.

i have the rogers equivalent, think of it as a cable modem without the wire...
its dhcp, so it doesnt use pppoe like bellus sympaticrap used.. you will need to plug it into a router if your gonna share it with all that gear, but ya its TRUE plug n play not like HELL sympaticrap-ola. but go for the Rogers version instead, it seems like the better deal.

Are you asking about the Sympatico Unplugged Service or DSL with a Speedstream 6300?

Hey, it's my parents I'm ordering this for (not myself), and since we're already on Bell I'm sure we'll be staying with Bell, especially since we don't have any Rogers services right now. If it were up to me I'd seek out the best options, and if Rogers was indeed, I'd go for it. I'm already pissed because I have to go out and buy all these expensive wireless adapters because they don't come with the bell package (did not know this when I ordered). And it looks like I'm gona have a heck of a time installing it. Right now I'm having problems as I ordered the package a week and a half ago and still haven't received it. anyways rant over lol

I believe it's the DSL with the Speedstream. On the site it's called Wireless Home Networking.

All you need to do is place filters on all your phones. Then plug in the Speedstream 6300 and all the computers. Make sure the line to the modem is not filtered.

Open up a browser, enter

192.168.2.1

Enter in your Sympatico login and password and you are good to go.

Make sure you get good adapters with big antennas because the Speedstream is a POS for wireless range.

I am having major troubles getting my Speedstream 6300 to recognize a wireless connection to my new hp (Vista) laptop. I ran the /mynetwork utility on my desktop (running XP) to set up the wireless network and everything is fine until I Finish the set-up. Then, instead of going back to the Intro page, it cycles back to the Wireless Set-up Config page where you say Yes -Enable wireless now.

I talked to three people from Sympatico last Thursday and Friday -one helped me get the Speedstream to turn on its 802.11 Link light and get an Internet connection (that took almost an hour on the phone and, no, the wait wasn't very long), one tried unsuccessfully for an hour and a half to get the desktop and the hp to share files wirelessly, after which I no longer had the wireless Internet connection, the third one informed me that Sympatico doesn't support the use of the Speedstream for wireless file-sharing(!) and suggested I Google for help.

My laptop now connects to the Internet and shares files, finally, through its LAN wire connection to the Speedstream. I am about to call Best Buy where I got the laptop and see if their Geek Squad can help. I should add that I am not a complete neophyte to networks having set up my faculty's first networked PC lab in the mid-80s.

It astounds me that 15 years later it is still so difficult to do.

Finally, it is intriguing that through this whole saga, I have been able to connect wirelessly to a couple of neighbourhood networks that are not protected, one of which even had an Internet connection open when I looked at it!
