Anywho, what is the big deal with this release? I just don't see it can kick Firefox's ass. I will stick with Firefox for the forseeable future.

I don't deny that Firefox is more secure. But with IE you don't need a thousand plugins just to view a web page.

True. I just updated my IE to 7 and I don't see any major changes. I may see some improvement if I were going to reformat my computer and reinstall Windows XP.

MS says only RC1 is out - where's the announcement for the final?

I think any significant changes to IE lie somewhere underneath. I tried it back when they were in the Beta 1 stage. This is still RC1 - and not the final but I actually prefer the interface of IE6 compared to 7.

I'll just wait for the final version and upgrade to IE7 at that moment. I'm not a Firefox guy myself, but there is certainly nothing wrong with the open source development bringing competitive, similar products (in some ways better). :cheesygri

Microsoft has officially launched its browser. Time to crush firefox :cheesygri

Looks a lot better than RC1 and is more fast.

Worth the upgrade? I'm fine with Opera plus I'm not feeling the new look vista-ish... Where the hell is the File, Edit, etc.? (Like any Microsoft software, is it worth the upgrade?)

Well it appears that most of what used to be the Edit menu is now inside the "Page" menu (a button on the top-right) below the search field.

And some of the File menu has been taken into the Tools menu and Print menu (respective buttons also on the top-right). I'm not having an easy time with this IE7 so far...

And I don't like how small they made the Back/Forward and Refresh and Stop buttons. Plus why the hell did they put the Refresh and Stop buttons completely far from the Back/Forward buttons?!

Lol seriously dude you gotto learn to use the keyboard for such stuff. I hate to see ppl using their mouse to click go, stop etc :cheesygri ...hehe but all boils down to user preference. BUt you might wanna consider the tips

1) If you want the old menu bar, either click alt and it will show up temporarily. TO have it permanently do alt+v -> toolbar->menu bar or click the tools icon on the right hand and click menubar

2) to go back use backspace key or (alt+left arrow)

3) to go forward use alt+right arrow

4) refresh = f5

5) stop = esc

Looking at the screenshots of IE7, I will stick to IE6. Layout looks crap, plus its just going to gobble up more resources.
If I want tabbed browsing, then I will use Opera, which is also the most secure browser on the windows OS.

Still, it's good to have an updated rendering engine for Maxthon.:)

I've been using it since Beta 1 and love it. The new interface gives you a lot more screen real estate than IE6 or Firefox. And tabbed browsing is cool. Plus, it works with my keyboard shortcuts unlike firefox.

Now that's quick ... "Secunia has confirmed the vulnerability on a fully patched system with Internet Explorer 7.0 and Microsoft Windows XP SP2. Other versions may also be affected."

Yeah, looks like it's final.

I recommend anyone who uses Windows downloads this, even though I myself use Opera and Firefox 99% of the time.

Why? Because of all of the security fixes alone and added security.

Businesses should test it before rolling it out company wide though. I have been using it since the betas and since RC1 most of the bugs seem to be gone.

I am disappointed though that MS has given up supporting Outlook Express, which remains one of the most popular email clients on Earth. IE7 has no update for OE. Vista includes a minor one. MS would rather you use the web based Hotmail crap. OE remains the best Hotmail reader.

Why would Microsoft include Yahoo products with a browser they release? Doesn't Yahoo compete with MSN?

Speaking of Maxthon, which I love.. is it compatible with IE7? Will downloading IE7 screw over my lovely lovely Maxthon and make me unable to view my delicious groups?

I've been using IE7 Beta 3 and when I go to download the final version, it tells me that I'm using IE7 and there's no link to update. Maybe it will be don e through Windows Update. My current version is 7.05450.4.

They don't include it.. Yahoo just released a customized version of IE7. Microsoft just provided companies with ways of customizing IE7. Great for corporate IT departments..

Great for corporate IT departments..Actually on another system of mine when I went to have a look, there were three options on the Microsoft site and one of them did basically pimp Yahoo.

If I go in with Firefox then it doesn't block the link. For anyone else who had the same problem then check out the details in the release notes. It just takes an uninstallation

Do you also doubt that MSN and Yahoo Messengers recently (finally) managed to offer interoperability...many, many months after Jabber and Trillian accomplished that feat? I wonder if this has anything to do with Google Talk or Skype.

Anyways, I now have the final version of IE.. 7.0.5730.11.

I just updated from an older beta... when did they turn on font smoothing? Makes every font look like it's bold. I can't believe they would have this on by default...

I just let IE 7 update on my computer. The toolbar is horrible. No customization at all. I can't resize the address bar. The home button and refresh button are all over the place when they should be beside the back button.

Yeah, they have ClearType on by default, probably since most people that would get it now have LCDs and going forward it will only increase.

I personally don't like ClearType. Have you noticed how blurry looking font is on the Mac? I don't like anti-aliasing for my font, I like it as sharp pixels. Thats why I can't stand the interface on any of the new iPods, damn blurry font.

Cleartype (and any antialiasing techniques) is very much easier to read. I don't understand why somebody would prefer to have it turned off.

I have had nothing but problems since letting IE 7 install. Outlook Express crashes now and I have to restart OE a few times before it actually works.

I do like the tabbed browsing (though when I click a link in my email, it still opens a new window even though I have it set not to) but other than that, IE7 has been nothing but a hassle.

I'm guess i'm just and 'old-timer' but yeah... i can't stand IE7. Back to 6 for me. Heck if they kept support for Windows 2000 I would still be using that instead of XP :) -sg
