Hi everyone,
I am looking to purchase a server to run Linux+Apache+MySQL+PHP on it and host a web application. Maximum load would be 10 users at the same time, no database intensive stuff.

Was thinking to buy a brand name, like HP with an Opteron cpu. Price range is 1500-2500$.

If somebody has any suggestions regarding the model and where to buy, please post. Thank you in advance!

For just 10 user access even you set up on a old P3 Machine will works good enough.

I agree with above. I used to have a P3 500 running Linux Red Hat server, Apache, ftpd, sshd, bitchx apps...etc.

Checkout E-Bay.. There's someone in the GTA setting off-lease/overstock Dell rackservers for a pretty good price.. I forgot the seller id.. But, I saw his sales items about 3 weeks ago.

He even don't need a Rack server. HP have some entry Server all start below $1000
http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/ctoBases.asp?oi=E9CED&BEID=19701&SBLID=&ProductLineId=431&FamilyId=2233&LowBaseId=&LowPrice=&familyviewgroup=265&viewtype=Matrix#

But you don't need the software from HP. Even you buy it you will just redo all the parts yourself.

I will suggest you choose a good quality S775 Intel 965 or 975 chipset MB
and choose CPU & memory accounding to what you need. Even just start up with a CELERON 3.06 & 1GB Memory for (~$400-$600) or (E6300 with 2GB Memory for ($800 - $1000). Both have on board SATA Raid.

Unless you want to go for SCSI in future.

Make sure have at least on board GB Lan.:)
