which is of course why you cancel and reapply for another one near when the 15 months are up.

I guess this doesn't work for someone still with a balance on the card. How would they cancel and apply again? Maybe better off with the 1.99% for life but seems like the CEAN link doesn't work anymore.

Hi All,

I am new to this CC balance transfer stuff. i have been reading through some of the pages (I dont think its humanly possible to go through all of them :D)
but I was wondering if you kind, knowledgable folks might guide me as to how my family and I can take advantage of this deal.

Here is our family's financial situation:

- No credit card debt at all (other than monthly usage, which we pay off immediately)

- 225k HELOC @ prime (2.25%) on our home
- 206k mortgage on one investment property - 3.2% fixed (closing was last week...prepayment may or may not be available...would need to check fine print)
- 100k mortgage on other investment property - 5.25% (prepayment for 09 already maxed out)

Is it possible to do a 0% (is this option still available...seems like YMMV?)balance transfer to the HELOC? I have read that there is a 1% balance transfer fee i think...can anyone confirm if this is correct?

My income is 55k annual, and my father is self-employed with net income of about 65k. We both have very good credit (I think, lol...we've certainly never had any credit troubles).

For my own knowledge, does this work by basically getting a card and then being given cash by the CC company to pay off your debt or whatever you want to use it for and then paying down/back the credit card balance?

Thanks for your help all!

I have never seen an MBNA applicaiton online before. I'm slightly uneasy about this. This is my third time through on this card, I just applied through the online link, but am a little uneasy. Does this go to the third party app center in India, or the one in Ottawa? I received no confirmation email, and there was nothing on that page that said MBNA.

Would I have better luck calling the toll free and applying over the phone? (obviously concerned this time because of the state of the economy and whether they will or will not approve this time)

I used a similar link about 3 months ago and the card came in the mail in about 2 weeks.

Question on balance transfer for 90 days:

Say you have a 10k card and fill it up......bring it back down to 5k in 2 months, can you add on another 5k, assuming you're still within your original 90 days?

It should, as it's within 90 days, however ask first as I don't think we have anyone here crazyy enough to try it, cause if you transfer a balance outside the promo it immemiately starts collecting bt non promo interest rates, and as such will be last to be paid off.

You're probably screwed here. Credit card issuers are tightening up their credit. They hate seeing large credit balances all maxed out.

If you have the resources, then pay off the $20 grand, and then try and reapply for another card (in your case, the 1.99% card for the life of the balance would be ideal). If you can't get that, then try and get the 2.99% or 3.99%.

I've played the balance transfer game, and I've noticed that it's a lot harder to do. There are fewer offers. I saw this coming, and I was originally going to get the 1.99% offer this year, but I decided to act sooner, when the credit crisis was just starting, just to make sure I got what I needed.

pay off 1k, then apply for the card. Call mbna a few days after u apply that u want to apply the 1k that u paid off to the card. Then u should be apply to transfer the balance of the old card to the new one...

Looking to pick-up a 0% Balance Tranfer card. I presently have two credit cards:

Card 1 - $0 Balance, Reasonable Limit, Dont Use Card too often. Dont mind cancelling it if needed.

Card 2 - 60% of credit limit utilized with balance owing - Used as regular card. I would like to keep this card active and move balance to new 0% card.

My question: As I dont use Card 1 very often, am I better off cancelling this card in advance of my application for a 0% Card? Or will it not make a difference?

Thanks

Don't cancel credit cards unless you have trouble controlling your spending and debt. There is very little benefit, especially if they are your older cards.

FYI they are getting tight. I have a Capital One Prime + 0.9 card with a high limit, that I have no balance on. My RBC promo rate was about to expire so I was going to transfer it to the Capital One and what you know the Bas***** dropped my credit limit to like 20% of what it was. I noticed it on the website account information so I called in.

They said due to Economic conditions yada yada and a letter was in the mail about the change.

I have great credit with nothing late and nothing maxed out, so just watch out esp with Capital One that what limit you think you might have available could be removed overnight with no notice until after it happens.

Hi,

I'm new to all of this and I'm hoping someone can help clarify a few things.

-I currently have a LOC at BMO that holds student loans of about $40K (limit of $50K)
-I have multiple credit cards that roughly have $10K limit - no balance on them
-I have a very good credit score

1) Do credit card companies like MBNA give you a credit limit high enough to transfer my LOC balance onto the card?

2) Can someone explain "Cheque Cash Advances"? Everyone seems to be talking about Balance Transfer which I understand usually happens from bank-to-bank. Does this mean if I write myself a cheque from this card, I'm essentially borrowing $xxx of cash to use however I want? Payoff LOC, make purchases, etc?

3) These special promo rates also apply for Cheque Cash Advances in addition to Balance Transfers?

Thanks!

1) I doubt it. The way they view it, you'd be asking for another 40K of credit rather than transferring 40K over. You might say that you're closing the LOC and only keeping the new credit card, but that won't matter to them.

2) Cheque cash advance is exactly what you think it is.

3) Yes

I meant to post this earlier in the week but have been sick.... anyway, there was just an article in the Toronto Star talking about how many U.S credit card companies are totally cancelling/limiting their contract/agreements with their Cdn clients due to the "credit crunch". Supposedly for preventative mesures.
Capital One will be ending its low prime plus 0.9 per cent rate because of the higher cost of doing business in Canada, spokeswoman Laurel Ostfield said.

"We are switching some of our customers to our best available product (5.99 per cent annual percentage rate, fixed for three years), which is very competitive in the marketplace."

This week, Capital One started notifying customers that the new rate will show up on their October statements.

By Sept. 4, cardholders will have to decide whether to accept the new rate or reject it.

If they reject it, they will have to stop charging new purchases to their cards.

But they can pay off their current balances under the existing terms for as long as they like – as long as they make their minimum payments – until their balances reach zero.

"Then their account will be closed automatically," Ostfield said.

Ironically, my mother just got approved as well for $10K on 0% for 15 months. She applied before July 1st so I can't comment on whether there is NOW a requirement to pay 1% of the outstanding balance, but it took over 5 weeks to receive. She actually received this offer in the mail and just snail mailed it back. No muss, no fuss.

So considering that my mother just got approved, I applied for my third card, but received a rejection letter, saying that I had sufficient credit from MBNA. I called up and suggested that I was going to cancel my account and the CSR said that if I cleared my balance, she would be able to offer me a deal to stay, such as 1.99% or 2.99%. But she was frank with me and said she couldn't offer anything while I still carried a balance. I took her point, why should they offer something now? What if I can't pay off the balance?? So yesterday, I paid off the balance with about 2 weeks to go in my latest 15 mths/0% promo period. I now asked for a deal. The new CSR said:" I can't offer you anything until your existing promo ends on Sept 1.

So I just suggested wouldn't it be easier to cancel my existing acct and apply for a new one right now? They closed the acct immediately and then claimed they couldn't "Find" the code that I gave them for 15mths/0%. I said thats OK, I'll just go online and use it. I went to www.creditrsvp.com, used the
CG4H code and it confirmed that it was for 0% for 15 months.

I should get an answer in a month

I decided to call MBNA today to check the status of my application because I applied 2 weeks ago and I have not heard nor received anything in the mail.

I spoke to a pretty helpful credit analyst and he asked me a few financial questions and ended up approving the application so I should be getting the new card in the mail within a week or so.

I already have a MBNA card with a decent limit so he simply transferred a big portion of that card to the new one and that is how much I will get for the 0% balance transfer. I tried to negotiate for more but no dice. Still better than nothing.

I don't know why the application stays in the system without anyone looking into it so it helps speaking to a live person.

Just called. Applied with code CEAN. It works. Apparently it takes 3-5 weeks to receive a response though. Yikes, these guys are slooow. Oh well, at least with this I can transfer the balance from my line LOC to this at 1.99% for life, and not worry about fluctuating prime rates until I kill off my debt.

A question I had: Is the 1.99% for only the first balance transfer, or ANY balance transfer I do to this card, first and future balance transfers? Obviously I do not intend to make any purchases with this card.

It's for balance transfers initiated in the first 90 days of approval, so transfer the whole amount, leaving a little bit of room for the balance transfer fee. You won't be able to use the card for 1.99% BTs afterward.

You'll need to deduct the transfer fee from your transfer amount. Ie. 5,000 transfer 50.00 fee. so cheque $ is 4,950.

You can also just call MBNA yourself speak to their applications dept and apply. You can get an instant approval if you ask. If you call the numbers posted on the thread you're calling a call center that takes 2-3weeks before it forwards it to MBNA. They even call you to confirm your information in some cases... you can circumvent most of the wait time by calling MBNA directly. They do recognize the code. Number is on their website.

You'll need to deduct the transfer fee from your transfer amount. Ie. 5,000 transfer 50.00 fee. so cheque $ is 4,950.

You also need to consider the amount of interest that you will accrue by the time you receive your first bill. If you write a cheque to yourself as suggested above, the interest charged in the first month will put your balance over your credit limit and may discontinue your promotional rate.

For example, you may want to only write the cheque for $4,900. The transfer fee will be $49, and the interest charge (at 1.99% p.a.) will be <$10.

Applied for the 1.99% Card back in June through one of the links provided in this thread. Last week I have received a letter from MBNA indicating that I need to call them (888-842-6932) to confirm some security information. Called the number and was told by Credit Analyst that there is discrepancy in my postal code and they need to verify my current address. Further, I was told to fax a copy of my credit card or bank account statement. (can not be older than 30 days). I asked CA if I can black out the account number but he indicated that the number has to be visible. I expressed my concerns with disclosing this information to them but he indicated that they already know all the account numbers that I have (credit check) and this is simply to verify my address. Has anyone else received a similar letter from MBNA?

Wow, that has red flags sticking up all over it!!!

When my husband's AmEx didn't have the right address, they never called, and he never had to fax anything. He told them all of his stuff (ie. birthday, ACTUAL address, phone number, etc.) but WE called THEM. Never asked for any statements.

Call them again, but use their customer service line, not the phone number they told you.

Also, if they had all your account numbers they shouldn't need you to send them again! You could have asked them to tell you what ones they had (actually TELL you what they are) and if they can't, well...
Also also, if they have the wrong postal code, HOW COULD THEY SEND YOU A LETTER???

My advice: Don't fax them anything. I think it's just some loser trying to con the average hard-working Canadian.

Got transferred to senior credit analyst...and again I was told that one of the characters in my postal code does not match the information that is on file with credit reporting bureau and the only way for them to verify this information is to see a copy of my bank statement (this time I was told that only bank statement will be accepted and can not be more than 60 days old). In addition, I was told that this is the new policy that they implemented to protect their customers. I guess I have no choice but to forward the required info to them if I still want the card.

0% for 15 months

MBNA Canada
Priority code: CG3X

Does anyone know of a code for 1.99%, 2.99%, etc, for life of the balance?

Not sure this should be in the expired deals.... they called me up yesterday and offered me 0% for 15 months, 1% transfer fee.

Perhaps they need to get more money out there or they are trying to improve their credit quality ratios?

Gig50,
You really need to stop calling the 1-888 # from the letter. This is REALLY seeming like a scam. I received the letter today also, and at least one other person recieved it 2 days ago, see thread http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9404581

Call MBNA using a phone number from their website, (their real website at mbna.com) or from the back of your card. When you speak with someone at MBNA, tell them what you have experienced when you called the other 1-888 number.

hope this helps,
gary

I did call the number provided on their website for their customer service department. And like I said before they still insist on faxing my bank acct statement to verify my identity. CSR indicated that this is the only way for them to verify that I am who I claim to be. I offered to send my property tax bill or any other statements (except bank and CC statements) to prove my identity but they said these are inadequate.

I just re-applied for another 15mos = 0%...have an existing card that just expired the 0% rate beginning of Sept, which I paid off already...after asking MBNA to just give me the new 0% promo rate on existing card, they wouldn't

BUT, I used the CG3X code, the rep said once I am approved, all I need to do is consolidate the new card with the old, and cancel the old account . Then another 15mos at an overall cost of 1% to do the bal xfer -- pretty cheap money.

I just got approved for another card at 0% for 15 months. My old car had a credit limit of 15k with a balance of 10k and the 0% promo ending in November. They dropped my old card limit down to 11k and the new card has a credit limit of 4k. The CSR told me the will not do a balance transfer from one of their own products to the new card which is a bit of an issue for me. He stated the only way they can do this is to consolidate the 2 cards which will void the 0% promo and I would have 19.99% interest on the balance. Has anyone had experience with this? How can I accomplish getting the 15k limit on the new card and keep the 0% promo? Worst case scenario I will cash in some stocks and pay off the old card, but I really don't want to do that if it can be avoided.

Just have them transfer the money to your bank account, then pay it off like any other bill.

i got a call from an outsourced vendor (minacs) offering me 2.99% on balance transfer until July 2010.

I'm thinking about it, but now read people are getting the 0% again..

What are the percentages I can call up and add an additional 0% promo on the same card, and do a second transfer (not messing up the current promotions)?

Any numbers I should be calling?

As a follow up from my post on Sept 15th, my new app has been approved, at 0% for 15mos... I cancelled my old card (which was paid off) and had them transfer the complete credit limit to my new card.

They asked a few more questions than usual, spoke to the credit approval dept to get things moving last week, but they said I will see a new card in the mail this week.

So, if you have an old promo card expiring, pay it off, then apply for a new card, cancel the old, and transfer your credit to the new one. Easy $$

I was in on the Citi 0% BT card a couple years ago... never activated the card, in fact.

I just received a mailing lowering my interest rate from 19.99% to ~12%. In exchange for that they've offered to apply a $35 yearly fee to the card. How kind!

You have to call in (or maybe write) to "opt out".

Just a warning to those who have this card sitting around and just rip up the mail that comes from Citi. Don't get duped!

I really really doubt that MBNA will be issuing 2% "for the life of the balance" terms any more: I feel very lucky to have got mine about a year ago, feeling that interest rates would rise, possibly dramatically, before I paid the balance down. I asked about the possibility that they would arbitrarily raise the monthly payment amount in such a contingency hoping to clear this low-interest account off their books, and was told (probably with no real authority) that they would only ever charge me the interest incurred + $10 per month.

If you do manage to get a low interest for the life of the debt card in this economic climate, good for you!

I just got the news from RBC that the low interest credit cards do not exist any more, the government has put a stop to it.

What about MBNA? still available?

RBC only offers now low interest promotional cheques, they are sent at random.
I'm really looking for one, please PM if you have one and are willing to sell it.
