Honestly people shouldn't buy laptops because they're cheap. Look for something that suits your needs. If you need something light or with longer battery a life a >$600 laptop might not fit the bill.

Wouldn't it be interesting if there was a law (like the Gov't's freedom of information act) that could force Staples (or another retailer) to disclose how much stock they actually had of an item that was on sale?

I recall several years, a discount chain once disclosed one of their branches had like 6 units of a toy that was advertised for sale.

OTOH, to force people to work hard to get a good deal does make them more appreciative of it, I don't think I would take my $197 laptop for granted--not that I found one! :D

Dang....compared with the Toshiba M40 that TSCC screwed up on last week witih Demo...this Toshiba isn't as good is it? And also that Acer 4202...does it have an SD card reader? I checked the specs but it doesn't seem to have it? Oh...and the 4202 is a Celeron Vs. Centrino :(.

Yeah, you'll kill yourself over this ... i'm using my a22e right now as we speak. I'm playing some old game Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on it right now just killin' time.

It's still going strong. I'm really impressed with these legit IBM's even though I was worried it was an off-lease. Built like a tank, no problems apart from the original HDD that crapped out really quickly but I replace with a Toshiba 4200 rpm 40gb drive. Oh, the battery is totally toast but I use the ac cord anyways. I don't actually use this IBM remotely ... just bring it to work when I do nightshifts and when I have access to a receptacle.

If this Toshiba lappy goes through then I may considering buying a Tekkeon portable power unit to potentially augment the battery as it's a 6 cell. If I would have pulled the trigger during the Dell sales I would have definitely ordered the 9 cell.
