I had the same thing happened to me before 4 years ago, with a POS Ford Windstar. I was driving along 401 on a steady speed and all of a sudden the car starting to accelerate gradually. I had to put on the brake slowly with the hazards on and eventually had to muscle the accelerate with a full force on the brake while pulling onto the right shoulder. Ignition off after that and had to be towed.
They (Ford dealer) said the throttle cable broke. At least it was still under warranty!

If so, then you prolly hit the gas instead of the brake by accident.

The Audi throttle "problem" was proven to be false. Stupid people were to blame hitting the gas.
Also people that "floor the throttle just for fun" are the idiots that cause accidents. I'm surprised the cop beside you didn't give oyu a stunting ticket.

No. I was going 100+ at the time and I was in a panic mode so all I wanted to do is to stop the damn thing. I tried to restart the car while it was in P and it rev'ed right towards the red line in no time. So in hind sight, shifting it to N would have helped the stoppage but panic mode took over

I'd like to know what kind of car it is as well. Could be a problem with the cable or the pedal itself. If it's an electronic throttle, you can check the range of motion of the pedal with the car off to see what's going on exactly and why it's sticking.

OOOOOOOOOOOOR it could be as simple as the pedal got stuck in the floor mats grooves (if you got one of those winter ones with large grooves)
Thats a pretty scary experience.

Ok, I see what you meant.
So whats it like to start the car with the thottle all the way down. Can't be good for the car I would imagine.

I had mine stuck under the floor mat a couple of times... left foot braking while right foot trying to get it unstuck. :-0

I was driving an old 1989 Volvo Wagon. I heard from a driving instructor that he had a similar situation occured in a Toyota in the winter and the cable froze so he shifted to netural.
After I park the car, I spend about 10 minutes fooling around with the throttle pedal. What I notice was you can press it down to a certain point where it gets very hard. You go any farder and it will be a kick down. Well it happened in a gear 1st auto trans start so no kick down I was doing. Again I was parked with the engine off, I played around and put the pedal to kick down mode and it did get kinda stuck. I though it was the plastic mat so I pull that aside and same thing. I guess I should just never kick down or floor this car.

It basically just tried to rev through the roof. Since it was not in gear (in P) so it went nowhere and I turned off the ignition right away and called the tow truck.
