Tarantino and Rodriguez will each write and direct a 60-minute horror film, and the two films will be packaged under the title “Grind House,” which is planned for a spring 2006 release through the Weinstein Co.
It also will include its own trailers, bonus materials and added extras from other filmmakers that will be packaged together between the two horror flicks in a tribute to the old, big-city movie houses like those on New York’s 42nd Street that earned the moniker grindhouses for programming genre pictures back to back.

That just looks crazy kool....reminds me of From Dusk 'til Dawn when all seems normal then everything just goes to hell (in a good way) and anything goes. Over-the-top everything. Tarantino/Rodriguez = Gold.

Can't wait for this, anyone seen the "fake" trailers that were created for between the two features?
Check out Thanksgiving, by Eli Roth, Werewolf Women of the SS, by Rob Zombie, as well as Don't, by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead).
The more I learn about this concept, the more excited I get!

Anyone and everyone should go see Grindhouse.
I saw it Wednesday night and if you're even remotely interested in either film I suggest you go see it/them asap.
Rodriguez fans will definitely enjoy the Rodriguez moments throughout his film. ie/ cheesy dialogue and outrageous explosions. It's so over the top and extremely enjoyable. The only fault I had with Planet Terror was that it seemed a little too high budget for an old-school low budget movie but it was still ridiculously entertaining and that's all that really matters in a film like this.
Tarantino fans will enjoy the long conversations and build to the 3'rd act of his film where it goes absolutely crazy. 2 guys behind me walked out within the first 25 mins. of Death Proof but I guess they just don't really get Tarantino's style because by the end of this one there was almost a unanimous standing ovation.
Also...I wouldn't look at the fake trailers online before going to see the movie on the big screen. It would really ruin the experience.

Saw this in the matinee today, and it kicked a$$! Rodriguez' movie was so over the top and was made to look like a classic b movie with all the grain and aged look of the film. They even had a fake reel burn in the middle of the movie and you miss some of the movie because of it.
Tarantino's was a lot better, I thought, mainly because of the awesome dialogue that he can write, and the crazy car chases and stuff. The fake trailers were hilarious, even though I had already seen Thanksgiving on the net beforehand. Machete and Don't were the best two.
This "movie" is going to go down as another Tarantino/Rodriguez classic, they sure know how to make good movies.

I really didn't like death proof. It was a bad follow up to planet terror, imho.
Planet terror was a non-stop action packed movie, just like you'd expect from the "grindhouse" but tarantino's had a lot slowed pace and was a lot more character oriented... which makes it bad for this type of thing. I really found most of the dialogue boring up until the crash and the car chase scene.
If they played death proof first they would have meshed quite a lot more nicely together. Death proof's ending with abrupt, a good segway to planet terror's. Planet terror's ending had more of a "final" feeling to it though.. and it didn't work at all with dp's slow start.
Planet Terror: 9/10
Death Proof: 7/10
Average: 8/10
Considering you see both for 1 ticket + the HILARIOUS "fake previews": 9/10

I thought Planet Terror was better than Death Proof. The main issue in Death Proof (in my opinion) was that the film style suddenly changed midway: it started with a fair bit of dialogue and character development, and in the end all that story development was thrown away for some action scenes, which made no sense, and had no contextual link to all the dialogue shown in the first half.

Planet Terror was great and in the classic grindhouse style.
Death Proof was just a typical Tarantino film, and not a very good one at that. Except for the very last scene, he didn't make it a grindhouse style movie at all. Too bad he didn't get it.
The best part though was the four fake trailers - Machete alone was worth the price of admission, and Don't, Werewolf Women of the SS, and Thanksgiving were spot on grindhouse homage.
This is a movie which really should be seen in a theatre, since that's really part of the grindhouse experience. Though I doubt you'll be "lucky" enough to find any old school grindhouse-style theatres like the good old Biltmore or Coronet on Yonge!

Planet Terror was just too funny! I loved how cheesy it was. But I started to tire of it towards the end.
I walked out with my friend after the first half hour of Death Proof too. I like Tarantino and all but I just couldn't sit through it anymore - I found the beginning just a little too dry for my taste (I suppose if it played first instead of Planet Terror, I'd have enjoyed it more).
Oh man, these guys behind me smoked up some weed and the people next to me were trying to open beer bottles incredibly slowly. :cheesygri

There was supposed to be a 5th trailer for everyone in canada entitled Hobo With a Shotgun.

I saw it in my theatre (edmonton, south ed common, cineplex) and it was absolutely hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing.
Don't was a little lacking but it was so 1970's/80's cheesy gimmick that it fit perfectly.
Edit: I can find the trailer for thanksgiving but I can't find werewolf women of the SS, don't or machette. :(

Obviously you missed the point. This is an homage, a throwback to the cheesy "b" horror movies of the 70s, you're not supposed to take it seriously.

Movie rawked.
Planet Terror definately the more thrilling of the two.
Really, Death Proof should have played first and then PT.
Kurt Russell was really fun to watch in DP.
I had read that the preview for Machete is actually going to become a movie.

Only the big theatres got this. HWAS was only added to 150 prints, so cheapo theatres like Rainbow (i.e. the one I saw Grindhouse at) didn't get the 5th trailer. :(

Hobo was the first trailer in my theater - it was mixed in with real movie trailers.
I think I was laughing so hard that I missed a lot of dialogue.
Nic Cage as FU MAN CHU! LMAO!
The movie was a lot of fun. It's a must watch in theaters, since on DVD it will just look weird with all the grain and missing footage etc... Plus the trailers made the film!!! Werewolf Women of the SS! LMAO
I really liked Planet Terror (which reminded me of a bunch of John Carpenter films) and Death Proof started off really boring, but the second half was pretty intense. The ending of the movie made me like Death Proof more than Planet Terror! PUNCH! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to AOTS, Grindhouse may be split into to seperate movies, since Harvey Weinstein thinks that the 192 min running time is too big of a deterrent for people wanting to see this.

I think a lot of people got put off from the gun leg.
Most of the people I asked if they were going to watch Grindhouse, and they were like "No, it looks stupid"....
ugh...... anyhow I'm going to watch it for the 2nd time. the movie is pure enjoyment!

I think Weinstein is making a bad decision to split it into 2 movies. If one presentation with 2 movies didn't make money in the box office, I doubt 2 separate movies are going to do much for it.
Why separate the movies when people that only choose to watch Planet Terror can just leave after its done. Or for those that only want to watch Death Proof  can just go in after around 90 minutes.
They are going for the grindhouse feel, which are often several movies combined in one presentation, and I seriously doubt Death Proof on its own will garner much more audience.
I think its more about people not understanding the goal of a grindhouse movie. Grindhouse movies are meant to look cheesy and over the top, very bad picture quality and different types of exploitation. People that don't understand that will think the gun leg is childish and silly.
I personally thought the movie was hilarious, Naveen's weird balls fetish and all the fake trailers. Absolutely loved Hobo with a Shotgun

So much fun..
I'm tempted to say Planet Terror was better because Deathproof took some time to get going but it wasn't bad either...Kurt Russell is the man.
For people that say they're going to wait for the DVD(s...yes, they're splitting them), you might as well not watch it. You lose the experience and the whole point of it all...

Saw this yeaterday.
Definitely liked the zombie film better, although Kurt Russel was great, as usual, in the second one.
I vote for Machete as the trailer I wouldn't have minded seeing as a film.
Anyone notice that "Hobo with a Gun" had "Winner of the Dartmouth film festival" written underneath:lol:

I think watching this on DVD would be a waste since the movie is all grainy and there's cigarette burns and missing reels. Totally takes away from the experience.
What they should do is fill in the missing reels if they are splitting the movie into 2...... but still, what are they going to do with the trailers then? That's what made the film worth more than the $10 I paid to see it.

Source?
True to Rodriguez and Tarantino fashion, they will probably release separately, and then charge more a few months later for the box set, complete with comic book/action figure/promotional materials....
