I see these once in a while, usually on cars a few years old (not new). At purchase, is there the option not to have any model numbers/letters (ie. "RSX", "Accord," etc.) on the back? Or did these people get them removed somehow?

You can get BMW or Benz without the lettering. It makes waxing easier because wax can get trapped in the lettering/badge. Also you can fool people into thinking you're driving an SL500 when you're really driving an SL65 AMG.

Yea people take off the emblems, fill in the holes and get it painted, gives off a sleek look.

I usually see civic owners do this.

I heard once that debadging is an upgrade on certain new European cars in Germany.

For some, it's a car hygiene thing. For others, it's about stealth.

Most of the time; Car is being rear ended or some thing; They usally cheap out to pay to pay for logo. Same thing for under the hood stickers or Stickers on Door Jabs

Debadging loses 214g of weight and adds 21hp.

Easy go-fast mod.

not when the person knows those cars well, since they should have different rims and other small differences

i think he meant it in the way that person would think you are slower and try to race you, but you are going to smoke him in the end.

I got the back of my rsx "shaved". So there are no eblems etc.

Looks much cleaner, but I might add an Honda logo (The "H")

It cost me 200$. And yes, alot of people are doing it now, but keep in mind that you may get pulled over by cops who want to ask you the make of the vechicle (I have my RSX with wide body kit etc).

why did you do it other then it looks cleaner? I cant for the love of god figure out why one would pay large amounts of money to remove a stinky badge.

I'd rather take that 200 and invest in something that will actually make a difference.

In some cars, the badges rust out and look bad... they may also promote rusting of the trunk lid.
However, people usually do it for aesthetics only.

Some badges are easy to remove, all you need is a hairdryer to heat the area, then use dental floss to pry off the letters. If the emblems are bolted on then you'll have to do something else.

I got Acura 2000 to take the Emblems off when I picked up my Acura RSX back in '01.

I have to say I was one of the first in Toronto Club RSX! LOL I did it for that "Clean Look" and it was easier to Wax/Detail! After 5 years, I got bored and have Apple/Mac on the Driver Side and GReddy (from my EVOII Catback) on the Passenger. :cheesygri

Hah that's over-thinking I'd say :D

The SL65 AMG is about $100K more than the SL500, so he was probably go after that trickery!

Pretty sure you can specify this when you buy the car new, at least on certain cars. My moms Audi has only the rings on it and no model tag front or back.

Nope, that's exactly what I meant. Same thing with people who debadge their Evos so people think they are just normal Lancers.
