too bad it isnt as hot as the concept but id say its still a very good looking car
im guessing but not sure that if this car uses the same platform as the mazda 6 or the fusion
but i really hope ford stops the fusion here and brings the mondeo over!!!!

Apparently Ford had tried to bring their "World Car" to North America (anyone remember the Contour/Mystique twin? It was the "MK2" of Mondeo) but it was not very successful for 2 reasons IMO:
1) The Taurus was still quite popular back then
2) The backseat was too small for us (or THOSE, if you know what I mean :D ) fat North Americans
Now thanks to the great brains up at Detroit, they've decided NOT to bring the MK3 Mondeo to North America. However the MK3 Mondeo was a sales leader for Ford overseas, it was also considered having one of the best looking interiors in its class. I've rode in one (relative's) in Hong Kong like 2 years ago.. the interior is very VW/Audi like. Much better than the Taurus (which was still on sale!!!!!!) and even the Fusion. The Fusion is nothing more than a Mazda6 in American shell. (MX-6 vs. Probe type of relationship again?)

It looks really good. If tey brought this and the Ka over from Europe then I'm sure they would see more sales and less market share loss. They also should fire the North American design studio because their designs like the Fusion haven't lit the world on fire.

yeah i think ar_ken hit the nail right on the head there
i completely agree with you
seems like Ford's global decision making is always looking at past trends and not looking ahead

not sure about you guys but the rear end looks a bit like the mazda 6

and the side like an Acura TL?

I don't know about you guys but Ford seems to just be taking designs from other cars lately. THe Ford Fusion....is pretty much a "fusion" of the 5th gen Prelude front and 4th gen prelude rear.

nah..the ford is not as ugly as the TL or 5th gen lude...those cars were/are an eyesore. but the mazda 6 is ford anyways.

The front end reminded me of a BMW and from the side looks very similar to the TL. Rear end has a Volvo look to it.

yes, I guess it does resemble the volvo. That seems to be Ford's design team, just copy other companies. The Fusion is so similar to the 4th and 5th gen prelude.

Euro Mondeo is one of the 3 or 4 non-Japanese cars to actually sell really well in Japan, and Ford makes a lot of money off them. It will never take off in N. America, of course. Just because the Japanese think it's an awesome car compared to the JDM Accord and Corolla and buy lots of them doesn't mean anything, what do the Japanese know about cars anyway? Everyone knows N Americans are different

il plagiarismo - the car industry has been copying and borrowing designs for years.

i think the concept took some design cues from aston martin
from there on, they started borrowing the 5th door and rear design a bit from mazda6, probably because its based on the same platform perhaps (highly likely)
but theres no denying that this car looks great
fusion sales are doing terrible eh
i think they should scrap the fusion asap and bring the mondeo/contour over, this time should be a hit

Where do you heard Fusion sales are doing terrible? I have read opposite. My eyes also tell me that there are quite a few on the streets. I would still prefer the Mondeo though.

ive only seen 2 Fusions in GVRD on the road ever since it came out
while the sales number for Fusion in the USA in September isnt bad, the competitors are still doing much much stronger
October 3, 2006
Reuters created this list of the September 2006 top 20 selling

20 Ford Mustang 133,269 128,485 24 +3.7
even the old outdated corolla sold much much more than the Fusion
at 32,279 vs 10,917
and here is the bland looking accord, 27,759
10,917 is the Fusion sales in Sept in the US
thats considered alright for a domestic car
but i think ford had much higher hopes for it
im sure the Mondeo can bring sales up if they brought it to canada
although i dont have any sales data for canada here on hand
altima is really outselling the fusion too
but it could be that Taurus is eating its own internal shares of the market
btw do you guys prefer the 3 bars across the grill for this car like in the concept picture or the honeycomb grills?
