How often should I get automatic transmission fluid changed on my 2001 Volvo S60?

Would you prefer dealer vs tranny shop vs independent garage?

BTW I checked my manual but it was unclear, and I don't really believe the lifetime fluid stuff.

Call up the dealer and ask, they are the only people you will get a straight answer from.

Odds are, very few people here have owned a S60. And of those, probably even fewer have thought of doing a tranny fluid change.

That honesty is highly dependent on the dealership (or, in the case of some, stealerships). If you trust the dealer, by all means contact them. If not, what's to stop them from doing a quick money grab?

I would suggest looking it up on an S60 forum, people should not only be able to tell you when to change it, but maybe also what oil gives the best result.

For my car it's every 2 years or 48,000km.

The Japanese cars that I drive all have simple drain plugs. Thus I usually change the tranny oil 2x a year. I usually buy 4 litres of original tranny fluid ($15) and take it to my mechanic (honda cert. mechanic). I know that by doing it this way, you only get about 3-4L out, that is why I do it twice a yr!!!!
