ok so for the past few months, about once a week somthing happens to my car as a park on the road by probably some kids who like to terrorize the neighbourhood. My car has been egged many times, had mcflurries thrown on it, peppers thrown on it (stolen from the pepper stand down the road), and many other incedences have happened. Before you think I made someone mad and this is payback, it's not just my car that this is happening to latley. I have been actually pretty lucky as tons of cars have been broken into/stolen latley, including an undercover police car from the police officers home who lives down a few houses from me. Anyways I have 2 questions:

1) Is there a way to get the spray paint off of my car or should I go through insurance? I tried spraying some WD40 on it and wiping it off, it came off of the plastic parts of the car like around the windows, but not off of the doors etc.

2) Is there anything I can do about stopping this from happening all the time? I think what I'm going to do is maybe wait outside on the weekend nights and hide waiting for them (most occurances happen on the weekend) and follow them home and tell their parents what's going on. I really can't think of anything else to do.

But most important is #1 I would really just like to clean this off rather than go through insurance and have to pay the $300 deductable.

We are looking for a new place to live now because my wife no longer feels safe here, and we have a 1 year old and another on the way (due in dec) and she just doesn't feel safe here. And the funny thing is we live in Aldergrove in a new part of the town which is really not a big town so we didn't really expect to have this kind of stuff happen, but I guess this can happen in any town now no matter how small?

That sucks.

Getting the paint off without damaging the stuff underneith will be difficult. You could try a thinner of somesort, it sepends on howstrong the clearcoat is underneith. Either way, it'll still be noticeable to some degree, and it'll very likely smudge or get at the original paint.

As for the people terrorizing your car... WTF? Arent the cops doing something about it? Especially if a cops car was stolen? I'm surprised it's gone on so long. I wouldn't recommend waiting outside and "telling their parents" - any kid willing to take this much heat probably wont listen or change his ways based on the what his parents say. Waiting outfront might be a good idea, just keep a bat or something close (not necessarely to use, but to demonstrate self confidence and strike fear in what is definitly a group)

If you really wanna be sneaky, buy a spotlight, 2 or so million candles, and a loud speaker. When you catch the kids, shine the light on them and wake up the neighbourhood. Let everyone else get their revenge

The only thing with that is the neighbours would be made at you and may report you to by-law.

Acetone will take off spray paint very well. It's cheap ~$5 for 500ml at cdn tire in the automotive refinishing department.

I removed a yellow "D" painted on a bumper from the wreakers. Test a small area first (especially important if the car has been repainted with an enamel paint). Pour some on a rag, and then rub the effected areas. I would then rinse the area with water. You shouldn't have any marks left if you use a clean rag.

Glass you can use acetone or a straight razor blade.

you could go to the police station and report it...
and have some undercovers watch over the neighborhood on weekends if its really becoming bad.

That would be an amazing thing to do! I would first go to the police, and the police neighbour to see what they can do. I would also try to get catch them in the act and get some pictures of it to bring to the police.

I don't know what kind of neighbourhood you live in, but if the police don't do anything and you've got some rugged/physically powerful neighbours, maybe you could confront these kids as a last resort.

Stay up into the late hours at night a few days and wait till one of the ****ers tries it on anyone's car. Bring out the bat and tell them the police are monitoring the area.

Borrow a semi auto paint ball gun and freeze a couple hundred paint balls in the freezer. Wait around until someone is getting frisky with your property and let em have it.

Dress for the job, all in black, have some friends join in the fun.

I would be wary about using acetone. it could take the clearcoat off. use it a bit on your spraypainted area if you must, but wipe it off with a dry cloth after swirling on it a bit, then use soem more.

I have taken spray paint off of my truck before without screwing up the clearcoat but using gun cleaner. Yeah you read right, gun cleaner. My uncle was over the next day and saw what i was trying to get off my truck. He had some in his and i used it. Worked great. Same idea though, use a dry cloth to wipe it off after using it for a few seconds.

i had to call them once for a friend who's car got vandalized and they didnt even come and told us to file a report online and they would come in 2-3 days after they received it.

If you don't have any enemies in the neighbourhood then it's probably just some stupid kids.
