Apparently when you purchase music online through Apple, the artist receives much less $ than when you purchase a cd.

Musicians don't make any money. The record company/producer does.

Yeah, feel sorry for the musicians.
I mean, after all, their hydro bill alone on a $10 million dollar mansion isn't cheap you know.

the fact that they now make some money off the iTunes downloads etc is still better than if someone were to download it off a p2p program.
iTunes cut out of this is more than fair, so I don't see it as apple screwing him over.
It seems like it is the record/labelling company that gets the biggest slice out of the deal.

How many musicians have 10 million dollar mansions? Use your head.

Record labels are really what's the problem. They take a huge cut out of everything. The digital downloads being cheaper than the album only means the artist gets less money rather than the record label passing on their own cost savings to the artist.
I really think if you wanted to support an artist, the best way is just to pirate their album and then mail then $2 in an envelope.

Time for Wierd Al to start touring. Artists don't make money from CD's..labels do. They make the bulk of their money from touring.
