maybe Im not a true gamer (or that I couldn't afford any gaming system till now), but I don't see the appealing factor of Golden Eye.

Think Metal Gear Solid interplayed with a Hollywood box office smash script.
I've never played it either but there's a large following, almost cult like for the n64 version.

^^ your not a true gamer.
Maybe its just because Goldeneye was the first real 4 person FPS that was any good, but to me this game started it all. In my mind if there hadn't been goldeneye, perfect dark wouldn't exist, and other fps (halo) wouldn't be as good. Granted something else would probably have come along and done what goldeneye did, and then I would be gushing over that game now. But since goldeneye did come out, I can gush over that.
As for the Online Multiplayer. I can't see the game NOT having this. Since it will be on PC, if online multiplayer won't be included, they don't need to bother releasing it.
Out of curiousity does nintendo own the rights to goldeneye, or does rare? If its rare, and since they are now with microsoft, couldn't the original game be remade with these or better graphics for xbox360 (ala resident evil 1 on gamecube)?

This is quite interesting. I have a working N64, this game (and Super Smash Bros) and 2 controllers downstairs in my basement. haha, it'd be cool to play it on my PC. The graphics on the consoles are extremely blurry and blocky, certainly needs some "refreshments".

>:( It's not my fault I couldn't afford any gaming system (other than my old school famicom and gen1 gameboy). Though the best FPS I've played was Strife and Unreal Tournament on PC

No, actually. There's really no story in the game, for some reason, it was UNBELIEVABLY addictive. We used to spend hours on end slapping each other to death in Oddjob vs. Jaws matches.

The story was loosely based on the movie but it was mainly retrieve things and kill people. It's funny that every new shooter game that comes out usually gets compared to the Goldeneye standard.

Anyone have a link to the game (trailers/screenshots)?
It looks like the boys are getting cease and desist letters from lawyers now :(
NVM, I found a working link:

Dang, that looks better than PDZ.

No, they're already having enough trouble trying to release it as a free product.

After seeing what happened to the Chrono Trigger remake (http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/), it probably won't get released publically. If they changed the name of the game, levels, characters, to something else maybe there's a chance.

If they changed the name of the game, levels, characters, to something else maybe there's a chance. You never know with this one. Chrono Trigger was shot down because Square "have plans" for the license, just like Microsoft had plans for a Halo RTS (a fan based Halo RTS was shot down, two months after, Halo Wars was announced).
This however, is not as clear cut. Nintendo published the title, so technically the source code is theirs. Rare was the developer, and MS therefore technically has some dibs in this too. But the actual licenese owner is neither (Activision owns it now), so it's hard to say if anyone has any actual interest in the title so much that they would put a stop to this.
However, if MS/Nintendo/Activision manages to find some licensing agreement to re-release the game on Virtual Console, all bets are off.
