Today Lablaw's employees will decide if they're going on strike.

Anyway, when was the last time you remember employees of a grocery score went on strike? I know that they're fighting for their wages, but isn't this whole episode a bit ridiculous?

Change all the Loblaws to Superstores and fire them all.

They're in the process of doing that in the K-W area. All the unionized Zehrs stores are being changed to Superstores.

Loblaws is union. Unions strike, thats just what they do. Your average 16 year old at store level has nothing to do with this. If its for higher wages I'm sure they have nothing against it.

Unions are great to work for, but not if your managment.

I worked a job like this for 10 years of my life, it sucks.. people who work in that industry always say, oh this job is realy good and has good benefits, and you know what, after working there for 10 years, its garbage. I dont know why they are always saying the benefits are good, and there is good job security. I went through 2 "contract negociations" where wages were decreased both times.. how is that "GOOD"? and you only get benefits after working for 5 years, plus you have to "maintain" a certain ammount of accumulated hours from the previous year to actually get entitlement to this, plus they always "forget" to put your forms through so you end up paying for the drugs, and then you send in the receipts in the mail and they always accidentally lose them and you dont get to re-do it.

Loblaws and its other brands are currently voting on a strike, but the strike does NOT include no frills, nor its fortinos stores, as they probaly have a different contract.

Right, just the problem is that RCSS is under the same union right now and they might be striking as well. Smart move. People make it sound so easy when its not there job. I hope we do go on strike, it will be funny.

Where did you hear that from? We only get a 1.60 premium for sundays. Thats it. Paid well? Starting is minimum wage. Sure some of the old ladies that have been around for like 20 years may get paid like 18 dollars an hour or the management thats not unionized.

Not once they turn it into a RCSS. That is what happend at the Whitby store. They got rid of all the university students and cut wages even with a union. And like Oni-kun says they get a premium for working Sunday, they do not get double time. I have had 2 teenagers work for Loblaws/RCSS. Not a bad place to work but I don't know the issues of the current situation.

*update* some sort of tentative deal may have been reached after hours barganing.. but the strike is still technically postponed... it can still happen any day now, it was supposed to be today, but doodoo hit the fan.
