Got surprised today when checking my credit card balance.
There was a $22.00 charge for a transaction that I don't know about.
FYI, I never used this CC for the past one month.
I live in Mississauga, the transaction was made in Richmond, BC by KIDS PLACE (company name?)
I called the CC company and got told there will be an investigation.
They will charge $2.00 for the investigation, but if ever the transaction is a fraud, it will be waived.
There will be no follow up from them, they will just roll-back the transaction if it's proved to be a fraud.
Is this common for them to do just that? Is it because the amount is relatively small...?
Do I need to change the CC# or perhaps just cancel it?
Thanks in advance.

I would love to know which credit card you are using. My cards never charge me for any investigation related to fraud.

whos the cc company
and if you are confident that you did not make that purchase, then what do you have to lose?
take a look at the date. it might have been right after the previous billing cycle so its showing up on your current bill

I've used credit cards since the late 80's and had a couple of charges investigated (one for over $10,000) and have never seen a "charge" for that sort of thing. Yeah, which CC company is this?

me too about not being charged. i bet the rep thought the op was lying just to get out of a charge. they are trained to detect incosistancies in speach and if the op was nervous, they probably thought the $2 might scare him off.
the name of the company on the bill could be anything from a porn site (horrible name if it was) to an online gambling site to a computer store.

I don't think the CSRs actually care or not. It's no skin off their nose if they have to reverse a charge because it's well within their service agreement with the merchant.

Hmmm...for $22, the CC will usually just reverse the charges.

This has happened to me before with my PC Mastercard. They also said there would be a $2 charge if the investigation turned up nothing.....but it turned out to be a mistake (not sure how it happened though)....and the company was legit....It was a charge from cineplex odeon in Montreal and I live in Toronto and did not go to Mtrl during the time of the charges. At the end they did reverse the charge and the $2 charge was waived as well. I did not get a new card and haven't had a problem since. It's been two years since this happened and I haven't had another problem with my card. I guess mistakes happen, not always necessarily fraud?

my cc was compromised a few months back with a charge from alberta (im from ON) and they did the investigation and it was waived. no fee was charged for the investigation however.
