I think the age of cards/comics being really expensive are past, too many people will NEVER throw them out now that they heard all those stories.

haha.
I think theres an annual magazine that will dictate the price of mint condition toys and cards..etc.
I got a Mario Lemieux Rookie card Mint cond, and a Wayne Gretzky card not so mint... my cousins made me keep it when I was really young... the Lemieux was up to $80 back in 1994.. doubt its worth anything now though.

pokemon cards are worth jack today, most places buy 10 holos or rares for less than $5, and commons or uncommons 100 for $1

It's been 12 Years since POGS and 8-9 years since Beenie Babies.
What's the current value on either?

I don't know how they worth but I do know POGS came back this year in a small way because I saw them on a Loblaws Superstore flyer.

yes, collectables will always have value, I check ebay on stuff, eg games and comics and people pay good money, for eg, my complete mario rpg could get me 90$+

I have one question, how much would you buy a rare Magic card for? Unfortunately CCG cards don't hold their value the same way collectable (ie: sports) cards do.

magic rares have a TREMENDOUSLY wide range of prices it depends on which particular rare ur talking about. the cheapest one can be worth almost nothing but some people will buy for hundreds of dollars.

On magic: the gathering
If you have one of the power nine, you can get upwards of $2000 (if you have the rare foreign variants) or low end around $200 (for 3d edition decent condition). In case you don't know what they are here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_nine.
There are also some other very good cards, like Sol Ring, which can go for upwards of $200.
The general rule of thumb is: if it is powerful and cheap (in terms of mana) it is worth a lot. The power nine are considered to be the best cards in the game.

No they will not be worth anything. Few cents a card at best. Back in the day they used to be "collectables" because not many were produced. Now due to the demand of stuff like this, they are mass produced. Thousands and in some cases millions of 1 item are made and sold.
If you want something collectable that might be worth something, it has to be one of a kind, or something that only a few were made.
Cars are a great example of this. How many people have a Maclaren F1? I'd guess less than 100 in the entire world. They cost upwards of $500k. How many people drive a Ford Focus? Millions. You can buy them new now for $15k. Is mass production vs low production.
Now you find a Pokemon card of which there are only a handful in existance, and you got yourself some money. The rest, worthless.

The card market seems to be a lot weaker now, having been depressed by saturation and expiring fads. Aside from the classics like Gretzky, Jordan and Maris, I wouldn't bet on a sudden surge...

My 10yo & his classmates are heavily into the Pokemon phase. He would be iterested in buying them from you at a reasonable price -- he got let down by someone on another site & is really disappointed! I will pm you.

Of course, it will be ... after 100 years. If not, 200 years. One day, it will be very very expensive.
