Closed down computer stores in Canada...

I'm trying to find a name and perhaps an old website of an old computer store that had closed down within the past year. I'm trying to find one cuz of school business plan...find out the history and see what they did wrong.

I'm "in the industry" and can add my toonies worth (inflation!) :twisted:

It's a tough business. Margins are really really thin, and even getting basic products is a difficult proposition sometimes.

With companies like FutureShop, and NCIX in Canada, and companies like Newegg in the US, I often wonder why people even try to open computer stores any more.

Many tier 2 Canadian distributors are in trouble, or need to rely on what's basically tax evasion to keep afloat (hence you see some frequent name changes in the industry), and even big ones like Tech Data or Supercom have had difficult times lately.

I expect a ton more computer stores will go under, this year especially, while bigger ones will get bigger.

are there any stores that sell actual laptops and desktops with an existing website still up, tho closed down. I'm trying to track all kinds of laptops cuz its the direction i'm approaching, doing parts is hard due to the many kinds of vid cards, mem, mobos....you know what i mean!

its my biz thesis, and hoping i'll have a good proposal by end of oct. then i'll have 6months to write my plan!!!!

Check out geekstreet.ca, you might be able to find the name of the store there. There's another site with a list of active/inactive computer stores but I forgot. You might have better luck with googling it.

Maybe try to find a copy of one of those free computer papers from last year. Check to a current one and see if any have gone out of business.
