I was just passing by the Harveys on Walkley rd in Ottawa and was planning on going there this weekend.
i just saw that they took all the outside signs down and shut down the store
There is now a sign stating a Dixie Lee restaurant is opening.
I'm kind of disapointed about that, but the Harveys there was always dead.
I really liked the veggie burgers and the grilled chicken sandwiches-I guess I'll have to start going to Licks more as it's almost up the street from me.
It seems alot of the Harveys restaurants in Ottawa are closing thesedays.

Is Dixie Lee a fried chicken kind of restaurant? I remember going to a Dixie Lee's with my dad maybe 15-20 years ago some where downtown Toronto. I remember they made some good fried chicken. The owners were Korean I remember.

This past summer the Harvey's closed at Market Square near St. Lawrence market in downtown Toronto. It was a very profitable location, they always had huge lineups. Must've been a lease dispute of some sort.

looks like things went downhill after they got rid of the Angus. I used to be addicted to harveys original burgers until i had an angus.. then it became my burger of choice. Now that its gone, i dont want to go back to original burgers, which means i've stopped going to harveys. Maybe some other people feel the same way. Bad business move

Wow,
thanks for the info everyone.
I guess it seems that the company who owns Harveys is probably going to close all their restaurants it seems?
sounds like it anyways.
I just don't see Dixie Lee catching on at the location near me, I think it's a bad move.
they should have put in something other than fried chicken.
I can't think of any chain places right now that would be good, but I'm sure there is a better one...

Cara Operations owns Harvey's, Swiss Chalet, Outback, Milestones, etc. The main portion of their business is in airport and airline food services.
Cara seems to have a very low tolerance for money losing operations. A few years back they shut down almost everything they ran in Quebec that wasn't at an airport. I'm surprised to learn they still had a free-standing restaurant in Gatineau.

Harvey's at Bank and Hunt Club is alive as well.
Anyway, I personally hate Dixie Lee's chicken. It's way too greasy for me.

Funny... the Dixie Lee in Newmarket closed up probably 15+ years ago. There's still one in Sutton. I'm sure I've been there before, but don't remember. I thought this franchise was prety much dead.

Dixie Lee is extremely big in the Maritimes. KFC has very little market share there due to them.

Dixie-Lee is VERY big on the Gaspe coast as well.
Almost all of the small towns along the coast have one.
