I purchased a 4 port usb driver, no company brand name on it it looks like the one in the picture but it's saying it's not recognized, anyone know if theres a driver for this specific hub? or what can i do to make it work, if anyone has any info that would be great, thanks!

I've had all sorts of problems with USB hubs in the past. Usually it's a power problem - there are no special drivers if it's for XP. I have one hub that when it's plugged in, doesn't allow my PC to bootup - so it sits in a drawer.

I suggest shutting down the computer and restarting without the ac adapter of the hub plugged in.

Don't get generic USB hubs, some work and some don't, and some are better than others.
It's always best to get a brand name, drivers for the USB device should be built-in into Windows, if its not detected there is usually little you can do apart from making sure windows is updated.

I'd agree - don't get generic hubs but that won't leave you in the clear necessarily.

The hub thrown away in a drawer is APC brand.
I replaced it with a D-Link brand which works but is not trouble free.

If you have another open usb port on your pc, try plugging it into it and see what happens. I have a usb flash drive that works in one port and doesn't in the other.

You could also delete all your usb hardware in device manager and then reboot and let your pc reinstall them. It's a long shoy but could work.

I have a TrendNet USB hub with 7 ports and it gives me the same error message as if it's a generic hub. Everything attached to it seems to work just fine, but the message pops up quite often and is an annoyance. I called TrendNet tech support and they don't seem to think anything is wrong with it. To top it off, the hub gets REALLY hot. I hope it doesn't start a fire--it's at the back of my wooden computer armoire....YIKES!

Device Manager -> USB Serial Bus Controllers -> USB Root Hub -> Properties -> Power Management -> Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

Do this for all USB Root Hubs. Reboot. Re-connect your hub.

If that fails, try another USB port. Then try another USB cable.

If all this doesn't work, bin the POS, because it's broken.

Thanks for the tip!
No worries. This holds for any USB device that gives you the "USB Device not recognized" error in XP.
