Hello, I have a 92 Corolla with about 159 000 km. I went into a big, deep pot hole in the spring season. Now I feel the damage. I feel every single bump on the road on the right front side of my car. If I go a bit faster, I can hear it actually hitting/knocking. I pushed down on the right side of my car and it just goes up and down and i can hear a squeaking sound. But the left side doesnt. Now everytime I turn the steering wheel a bit to the left or right or when I'm slowing down to the lights, I can hear some squeaking sounds.
Now I'm thinking its the shock that I need to change. AM I correct? If so, anyone know where I should have it changed or how much it will approx. cost me?
Thanks

Most probably are right. The strut is toast. If the side you suspect just continues to bounce up and down then the srtut is no longer functioning. You may have damaged more than just the strut and by driving it you may also need a constant velocity joint, perhaps a ball joint or tie rod end or two as well. I am surprised you have not had severe handeling problems with the car. You do realize they need to be replaced in pairs?
Cost? You will need to shop around because this could be a big one.

Alright, I just changed my front right strut as it was leaking oil. I changed it with a used one that is still in good condition. However, I still notice that knocking sound espeically when I'm turning left and the road isn't flat. I hear the knocking sound from the right side wheel area but I dont hear this when I turn right. Also, if I'm going straight and it's really bumpy, I can hear it hit pretty hard. Does anyone know what needs to be fixed or if I should get it looked at again?
Thanks

I vote ball joint, which could be damaged by the pot hole and knocked loose.

ball joint, sway bar link rod, upper strut mount would be my top 3 choices. if you did somehow manage to damage a strut by hitting a pot hole (highly unlikely) then you would most likely have other more extensive damage. lift the r/f tire off the ground and give the wheel a shake side to side and top to bottom. try and observe any loose/movement in the suspension links. there should be none in your car. also spin the wheel as fast as you can and observe any wobbling, if you hit something hard enough to blow your strut, then you would definitly have damaged your wheel and or tire.

The strut could be shot... but it sounds like the ball joint is done
Hard to say without seeing it

I found out that it wasn't due to the pot hole and it was just wear and tear.
Alright, everyone votes for balljoint. How much would this cost me as this is an old car and I already spent so much on it recently.

price depends on where you take it, but I would take it ASAP. when the bj gets worn enough, it can snap and you will loose control. it will also cause other damage. EXPENSIVE damage......unless you want to spend major $$$$ fixing collateral damage, get it looked at and fixed soon.
most places offer free inspecitons with an oil change.

I'm going to have it looked at. I hope it's just the ball joint
