I haven't opened any filed in my other hard drive in my computer for a while, and now I cannot open any of the files in there, basically, every time I tried to open a word or media file, here's what I get:

When I tried to open a word file, here's the message I get:

This message can appear if a file is saved with permissions. Permissions, also known as rights or privileges, can be applied to a file, folder, or almost any resource available from a network (printers, shares, files, databases, Web sites, etc). When a user attempts to open a resource that requires specific user permissions, this message will appear if the user does not have the necessary permissions.

and when I tried to access media files, here's the message:

Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.

Basically, I just can't access it. I am the only one using this computer, and have no idea what is going on. Some one please help. thanks!

go to:
1- My Computer select the drive in question
2- Right click and select properties
3- Select Sharing Tab
4- click on " If you understand the risk but still want to share the root of this drive Click here"
5- Make sure the check box " Make This Folder Private" is unchecked

Are you sure you have admin privilege. What if you logged in as Administrator in Safe Mode?

yeah, i'm sure. Thing is, those files have been there for a while and was copied from my other harddrive. I can open all the new files saved in that hard drive, but just the previous ones from another harddrive saved there I can't open. I can see all the icons, but can't access it.

Can you at least see the properties of each file? What happens when you try to make a copy?

I can view the property of each file when I right click. However, when I tried to copy or cut and paste it to my other harddrive or on my desktop, it says "cannot copy file, make sure disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use".

I know the disk is not full still have like 20gig left, and none of them is running. what could be the problem? thanks

try one of these:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=308421
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=810881

If those don't work... then maybe the files are corrupted. Perhaps google for a file recovery program.
