I get an error on boot up and can't get into XP anymore. I need program(s) that can clean everything up (anti-virus, spyware, etc..) after booting off a CD. Any recommendations?

How about 'repair install' WinXP and start from there ?

I would like to do that as a last resort. If I did do it though, would all of my programs and settings remain intact or is it like a fresh new install of windows?

Sorry about that. When my computer is starting up, I get to the windows welcome screen and then I get a message that says 'Insufficient resources exist to complete API' the only option I have is to press OK and when I do the computer reboots and the cycle repeats itself. I did a search on this error and it seems it's caused by a virus, so I wanted to clean my computer of it and any other crap that might be there.

Do you get the same message if you try to boot to safe mode?

Bit of a learning curve, but it's got a lot of nice utils packed into one dics.

I can get into safe mode, but there's not much I can do in there.

That looks interesting, but does it have anti-spyware?

Run adaware in safe mode.

I tried to go into safe mode and now I can't get in that way. I get a blue screen error. I also tried booting up regularly thinking maybe it might work now, but I get the 'Insufficient resources exist to complete API' error which I also noticed it says lsass.exe with the error.

reinstalling windows over a virii'd or non working one is a temporary fix, it will generally never fix anything.. your best bet is to back up your important stuff to a hard drive or another computer and reformat/reinstall, this way you are certain to fix the problem ....
