Note the $100 is not aplpied till checkout time....
$499 for a Pentium M 1.4 D600, with free shipping, still under warranty, is actually a pretty good deal.... better than eBay at least.

Last time around, I bought three $90 computers for -$10 each, plus $50 shipping. So the total was $20. Don't seem to be any available this time.

This one here seems to be a good enough deal... it's got the following specs.
DELL LATITUDE C640 P4 1.8 GHZ NOTEBOOK WITH DVD
* P4 1.8 GHZ INTEL PROCESSOR
* 14" TFT ACTIVE MATRIX SCREEN
* 512MB SDRAM
* 30GB HARD DISK
* DVD/CDRW COMBO DRIVE
* FLOPPY DRIVE
* SOUNDBLASTER COMPATIBLE AUDIO ADAPTER
* ATI MOBILITY M1 GRAPHICS ADAPTER
* NETWORK ADAPTER / 56K MODEM
* CARRY CASE
* POWER CABLE PROVIDED
* MODEM & NIC CABLES PROVIDED WHERE NECESSARY
* NO SOFTWARE
$450 after coupon applies... does this mean that no windows OS, when it states, no software?? Is this one quite heavy? Would it be better to go one model 'up' to the $599 - $100 one? {Only 20 GB.} Thanks...
Edited to add: Meh :evil: ... no OS included:
Is software included?
Our systems are not supplied with Operating Systems or any other application software unless otherwise specified We do not provide upgrades or parts other than those specified on our website.
Further edited to add: They also do not mention anywhere what to do if you would like to return it [is there a time limit for return, do they charge restocking fee, etc.?? Shipping charges back to them, etc. ??]

Beware that it's a P4 processor and not a Pentium M. I wouldn't consider this a good deal at all.

What if it's only used for very basic office apps. and no games at all? {Thanks! :)}

What is the specific coupon code ? I got to the screen where it asked for the code # and credit card #. I don't see the $100 coupon applied anywhere. Thanks.

ebay can be a bit cheaper than that.
The thing with dfs is that if you dont like it you can just send it back.
edit: average price is about the same.. meh

Dell laptops with Sony batteries - you can call this a "fire sale". :cheesygri

To answer your PM $100.00 is the code. I don't know why the above poster says it doesn't work.
Perhaps try to contact DFS direct?

Did you make sure it was an off-lease and not an open box model? The $100.00 code states it is only valid on off-lease products.

Likely the issue. I've purchased several Open-box units from DFS. That's where the deals can be found. Lots of RFDers bought monitors back when a Sony 19" or 21" was brutally priced at retail. Now there's little reason to buy. When you consider the lack of OS, the heavily used nature of off lease laptops especially, I'd take a pass.

They seem to be holding the boat in place. :lol:
They are actually decent computers:
- Dell Optiplex GX115, small form factor
- 512M of RAM (well worth the purchase price in itself)
- 10G hard drive (a little light)
- cdrom drive
- PIII something-or-other (833?)
- Comes with a Win2k Pro license sticker. But I'm using Linux.
SFF boxes are nicely unobtrusive. I prefer the mechanicals of my older Compaq DeskPro EN SFF machines.
Perfectly fine for most ordinary tasks. Clearly not good for recent games. It is not reasonable to add a decent video card (only PCI slots) or inexpensive internal DVD writer (CDROM is in a low profile bay).
I will admit that I have a few boat anchors. I guess my oldest and slowest computer is the Altair 8080a

My bad. It was an open box notebook. That explains it.. Oh well, I would have bought it otherwise but I think I'll pass now. Wanted to get a 9400 but don't want to spend the $$ :-) Some lucky dudes got them new with the 50% and 75% codes but I had no luck with that myself.. Oh well.. I'll be patient I guess..
