Former, the still have a standard roll of film inside and you take it to a photo shop, they then take it apart, dump the camera parts for recycling and develop the film inside.

I used to work in a photo shop and the neat thing is there is usually an AA battery inside for the flash from these things. Since they are hardly ever used and still *almost* fully charged, we used to keep / sell them at the side.

Sweet!!! And thank you both.

I used to work in a photo shop as well (Black's)... I just used to use the batteries for myself... or when it wasn't busy we'd just use them as light tasers and shock each other.
Sometimes we'd get damaged disposable cameras or ones that didn't seem to work properly. So I'd just go in the darkroom, bust open the camera, roll the film into the canister (not all the way obviously) and voila! a free roll of film for me!
So if you have a better 35mm camera you could also look at this as a $1 roll of film... though I'm not sure what 35mm goes for these days - I haven't used it in years.
But anyways, this is a good deal - and certainly great for weddings as someone mentioned :)

This isn't that hot a deal, since they don't include finishing. Usually these cameras are about $8.00 or so, but that *includes* finishing of the photos.

Since these don't includ ethat you will have to pay for it, and it will probably add up to more in total.

But, to develop a roll at superstore/costco is like what $3~4 a roll ??

Even though it is only $1 in the beginning, it will cost you much more for development.

In my opinion, the only useful area for film is for high quality photo. One time use camera is no way for high quality.

For fun causal shoting, digital camera will cost you almost none if you use rechargable battery. Just buy those $100 cheap digital camera (My Canon A400 3MP with 3X optical is only $99 when it is clearance 2 years ago) and insert the $20 1GB SD card, plus $20 4 AA NiMH battery with quick charger, you will have unlimit fun for no cost in long run.

Agreed! Digital is the way to go! When digital first came out, I still believed in 35mm... a bit of a photography fanatic I am. But my point and shoot as well as my SLR are now digital and I wouldn't even look back at 35mm again.
Even a 2mp digicam will get you decent 5x7 prints if you're looking for something cheap.

To add - I can get much higher quality prints from my digital SLR than I ever could from my 35mm SLR! So even for high quality prints - digital is still the way to go. 35mm is becoming obsolete.

I'd be careful with the cheap one time use cameras, I've seen quite a few cheapies come in to Black's where Kodak film canisters are refilled with film, labelled with a generic tag that says "color film" and then put into those cameras. Most of the time those pictures don't come out, partially fogged, double exposures and the like.

A single roll of 100 speed film Black's brand (fuji film inside) is less than 3 dollars.

It's nice to have a throw-away camera at hand "just in case". But then like the other people say, the finishing is a kill off.

Note to everyone. I just went to my local Zellers and they're totally sold out of these cameras. i also asked him to call another in the area, and they were also out.

He said these cameras are on sale because stores that have them are "clearing them out since the film in them are close to expiry date.". WHat this means is, unless you use the cameras ASAP, the pictures developed form the cameras may appear a bit washed out.

The gist of it is, if you can find a store that has them in stock, don't buy a crap load of them to use "whenever", since the film will expire soon. The expiry date should be on the packaging.

Good thing to keep around in the car incase you spot aliens/UFOs.

Actually, are they sensitive to temperatures?

These cameras are good presents for kids going on vacation or to a big party. Kids feel important w their own camera and you dont have to worry if it gets wrecked.

Yes, film is very sensitive to heat - Definitely not good to keep in the car. You'll get colour blobs all over your photos and they'll also just be washed out. Film is best kept in a refrigerator.

They don't use the refilled canisters, they use the same film that is sold seperately for regular 35mm camericas, I think it is made by Konica/Minolta.
