Isn't Toyota following that stupid "no hassle" pricing mantra where the price is the final price?

I always go into a dealership saying the same thing.
"Show me your invoiced price and I will give you $500 over cost"
I have purchased my last 4 cars that way and they have always accepted the offer. Because if they say no, I will just go to anther dealership. One is bound to accept it. I think $500 is a decent margin for them.
Usually there is a 10% markup on MSRP. Higher on the luxury cars.
There are also dealer hold backs. Usually up to $2500 depending on the car and the time of year. These are kick backs to the dealer after they sold the car.
They still rip you off on PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection) and Freight. The charge up to $1400 for this. Shipping does not cost that much and they pay the car jockeys $10 an hour to degrease the car and rip the plastic off.
Never buy rust proofing as all new cars have some rust protection. Personally, I would not bother with the extended warranties either, but that is up to you.

BC Toyota dealers are doing the no haggle Toyota Access thing. Esp for 2007 models, they will just wave you out if you try to haggle. They shouldn't be budging a cent.
For a brand new model, you can expect a few hundred off MSRP (500 ish?). But it's not like you're getting a 2006, I wouldn't expect many discounts.
Avoid Richmond dealerships, they are so high volume they tend to sell for the highest amounts. Try the suburbs. Carter Honda is quite high volume too.

options. And that's it. I also tried the auto broker. He only promised me to give me 250 dollars rebate under the table if i go through him.
I think you can always negotiate price with honda. You can try apa price and autobroker quotes, then you can figure out a price you are comfortable with. when you buy it, ask for some free oil changes .

but toyota and honda wouldn't give you cash price incentives, I ended up using their financing

use carfax
get a wholesaler price...
for a 07 Corolla, it's a little more than $1000 off the MSRP, depending on the trim package....
apa in ontario/quebec is a service which looks for the car for you, at the best price. these prices are typically 3% above wholesale price... apa also has a listing of the dealerships which participate with apa...
went to a toyota dealership, show the carfax info, and offer 2-3% above that...
Got a 07 this week for about 800$ less MSRP...btw, Ontario dealership. Dont know if they'll do the same out west...

Some good info there, some not applicable
As stated before, out west, Toyota does not haggle, period (I'm suprised they've managed to maintain growth despite this). If you want options, they might throw it in, but that's as far as it goes. Here it makes no difference if you show them the carcostcanada invoice pricing - they will just show you the door.
Going through APA is the only way of getting a discount at Toyota in BC (since you're going through APA's broker). APA is generally pretty good about telling you up front before you purchase a membership whether they can get a discount or not. generally if it's only a few hundred, they tell you not to bother with a membership (Honda Fit, Nissan Versa)
For the 06 Rav4, back in March, the discount for my friend worked out to be
$1100 off MSRP for the Rav4 LE 4-cyl. This is $1400 above invoice for the dealership.

Thanks guys!
What about used cars from dealership? for example, 2004/2005, would that be a greater discount or no haggle like new cars?
It seems that used cars from toyota/honda dealerships are alot more expensive than other used car sales company.

word of advice, stay away from the 07 Camry for now
its automatica transmission has been getting reliability issues all over the world
its a clip in the AT that causes the slippage at 2nd and 5th gear
its a widespread problem and toyota is doing a lot of damage control buying back cars or replacing cars that have these problems
otherwise, its a great car
unless you are ready to gamble or deal with the headaches, avoid Camry until 08 or even 09
