At the Prince George Costco today, remaining 100 packs of TDK print on blank DVDs and 4x25 packs of non print on DVDs went on clearance for $19.97. Not sure if this is at other stores, but a better deal than when they are 2 for 1 coupon as you have to pay the tax on the coupon (er rebate) amount.

and once again I would like to make my futile recommendation to NOT waste your time on this crap. The stuff that works doesn't work that well in most cases, and there are lot's of full 100pc spindles even that are unburnable under most conditions (burning at 1x in my DVD recorder is "ok", and 4x in one of my BenQ drives is "ok", but neither product even good results).

There is much better media to be had, and even though it might be ~$27-$30/100pcs, it's still a much better deal in the long run.

I have been using TDK DVDs since the first 2-4-1 sale at Costco and have had no problems.
I have used these on various writers (HP, LG, Pioneer), and have no problem writing at 8x-16x.
In all I have purchased about 700 of these DVDs, used about half so far, and am very pleased.

There *might* still be some "made in Luxembourg" stock left in those unprintable 25pks. Look for "made in Luxembourg" stickers on the bottom of every spindle and dark grey spacers. The quality of recent MIL is a bit questionable, but at least it has the potential to be very good media.

To be honest, I still don't understand how media of famous brands like TDK, or Sony, or Maxell could be "crap". If these DVDs are not burnable in a consistent, large-scale manner, it will make headlines in tech journals or even consumer reports. Until then, I would prefer *any* Sony or Maxell or even TDK to some Verbatin ... or verbatim.

I've gone through about 50 TDKs without a coaster.

Being able to write them is one thing, having them play back at a later date flawlessly is another.... these disks are plagued with problems, IMO the only good TDK disks were the old 2X ones which were EXCEPTIONAL media.

Again just cause you dont have a coaster doesn't mean anything, just cause it burned the disk doesn't mean squat! ...

Just like the dolphin said, STAY AWAY FROM THIS MEDIA! its CRAP!

I'd like to add my $0.02 to this thread.

Based on my experience, I echo what Digital Dolphin has said. I bought 100 of these disks when they had a BOGO on their 50 spindles. I opened one pack yesterday and the first disk burnt was a coaster - burned fine but the data was unreadable. When I looked at the reflective side of the media, I was shocked to see that there appeared to be "bubbles" on the media. I looked at the other disks and all but 9 had these "bubbles" - 41 disks were useless!!

Although this is just my opinion, these are probably some of the worst disks I have ever seen and will not buy another TDK spindle ever again!!

Oh, and if anyone is wondering, the MID was TTG02.

I still have over 70 of those from the last year when they were at $24. Terrible media. low quality stuff.

Which is funny, because since the Luxumbourg plant went down, TDK's DVDRs are supplied by the same plants making Verbatim :cheesygri

And I should also point out that most North American tech journals are USELESS when it comes to blank media. If you took the time to look at some European ones, especially some of the ones written in German (like C't), you would see that TDK is not getting all rave reviews.

And Magical has it right, the old 2x DVD-Rs were quite nice :cheesygri

I have used up about 600 TDK from Costco and have never had a problem with my LG 16x

My friends buy them as well and no problems.

I'm never buying TDK again unless the vastly improve. I've had nothing but problems with them on my Pioneer 110D.

Funny why anyone would risk buying bad quality disc to save 10cents each. Even if you can reburn them one's time must be worth more than 10cents/disc let alone the replacement blank disc cost. Best of luck to the gamblers on having readable disc in the coming months.

I have been burning DVDs for over 5 years now, and I have to say some of my old DVDs don't work anymore; they burned and worked no problem a few years back, but can't do s*** with them today. Some of the old DVD that were made by SONY(MIJ TY) still work perfect today. Therefore, depending on what you use the DVDs for, avoid the crap ones like the plague.

I have used around 200 TDK disks from Costco without single coaster...
In contrary I just bought Fujifilm (16x) -R spindles and my NEC burner is not able to burn them .... Media code is RITEKF1

If you want to see some stats than go to VideoHelp.com and check it by yourself:

I've burnt well over 1,200 of the 16X printable TDK DVD-R with about 10 coasters which were all caused by software and/or human errors. I burnt all discs at 16X using NEC writers only. All TDK discs I burnt are playable in various different players. I've never had problem playing the TDK discs I burnt a year ago. Will they last another year or more? Who knows? I wouldn't really care anyway. I'm using the TDK for movie backups only. It's not the end of the world if the backups don't play in a few years. I'll likely have moved on to HD by then.

If they're worth $2.99 to you in the Armor Plated variety, TS has them on clearance for $2.99 ;)

I dont worry about coasters because I can say for sure I've broken more DVD burners than I had coasters. I use DVDs of all major brands, including over 200 of these TDKs; so I'd recommend them.

You gotta love how most of the people who like the TDK's talk about how they haven't made coasters, whereas most of the people who DON'T like the media are talking about how they died quickly. Although admittedly, there are lot's of people also (including myself) that have spindles of the media that don't work from day one.

How can I argue to people who have "1200 non-coastered" discs? How can I agree with them with so many discs in my own collection that are completely worthless and unusable (that are exactly the same as what others bought) ?? How can I dispute the fact that many others have had the same or similar experiences as me???
(hrm, remember my first post in this thread when I said my efforts were futile?)

Here's the fact, and this is going to be REALLY hard to dispute, even for the TDK fanboys in this thread:
TDK MEDIA IS VERY VERY *VERY* VARIABLE IN QUALITY
To prove this wrong, you have to discredit my personal batch of TDK discs from Costco, as well as everyone elses who speaks against the media when these threads inevitiably pop up.

For those of you reading this thread who are willing to at least consider the above statement, I would like to say further that it is not just *MY* experience, and the experience of many other people on this forum, but it is also a consistant result in various media life longevity studies, that TDK media degrades at above average speeds (although this too can vary from spindle to spindle and disc to disc).

If you are TRULY comfortable with the fact that you might get a spindle of media that does *NOT* work at all from day one, or maybe a spindle that burns alright, but is unreadable within 4-12 months, or maybe can last 2-5 years.... but you don't *KNOW* what you're getting.... if you're ok with that, then by all means, buy this media until the cows come home. But don't come crying here expecting sympathy if/when your data is lost because of your decision to save a dime with no thought to the quality of the product. Although I of course would encourage you to post your experiences here anyways, if only to dissuade more people from turning into TDK fanboys.

The ones that are 'on sale' are probably older skus, which are being blown out. I would think that very few stores actually have these in stock.
