I don't know if this is a good deal or not, but Canadian Tire is having their 84th Birthday, in the flyers theres a night owl optics monoculars for $169.99. Reg price is $269.99.

For just under $200, you can see in the dark, is that a good deal?

Well, given the nature of RFD, I'd say they'd probably be stocker stalkers

Sitting outside stores at night with the night vision goggles watching for any clearance pricetags being put on the shelves by the overnight staff :cheesygri

Anyhow, this sure sounds like a good deal, anyone know what these normally go for at other/specialty retailers?

Really no need for a flashlight then.
NVG's are definately kool, first one I tried in the 80's were kool , just simply because you could see at night.

Been looking for a good Gen1 scope for a while, and Night Owl have a very good reputation in the business, however the only review I could find so far on this model is very poor. Too bad Crappy Tire doesn't have the more expensive 5x scope on sale instead (that one was amazingly good reviews).

Specs on the CT site are slightly off, check the link below for actual specs.

How much do those night vision binoculars cost in general?
Like $500-couple thousands right?

Monoculars do cost around $200-300.

But if you can pop over to the States, the Yukon Night vision binoculars go for $300USD and are WAYYYYYY better. They can also be head mounted to go Splinter Cell style too.

They are 2 kinds of night vision, IR illuminators and ambient light magnifiers.
The first requires electronics, and the second type only requires really good optics. However, the later is usually way more expensive and cumbersome. This one is a IR illuminator so it's good to go in completely dark conditions but don't see very far.

I want to wear these as goggles like in Splinter Cell, dress up all in black, and scare the hell out of unsuspecting victims walking through dark areas in the middle of the night

Perfect for camping. Use this gear to go to the crapper late at night without disturbing your partner. Good for covert night driving too.

Well, these are monoculars not binoculars...since you're seeing with one eye, does that mean you can't judge distant?

Speaking of eyes, "playing" too much "Jenga" can make you go blind too. :)

That might be a good way to get a free night's accommodation in your local police station.

Or a date with TJ Hooker. A court date that is.

Sure, with my Eotech holosight. That's what it's designed for.
