Have a crack in my van

insuirance says to pay for it myself - dont put a claim in

the last time this happened - diff car - it was when they had 50 deduct and the windshield place paid for it.

I have had any tickets/accidents since i had the van in 2001 - nor any other cars and i have been driving for 20 years..

should i pay out the money or just take it to a "we pay the deductibel place" like at canadian tire???

Confused

Do a google search for windshield replacement in your area. I had the same problem - big crack on my Protege5. I went to Apple Autoglass and they said it'd cost $800 to repair. Went online, got it for $230.

I have a Protege 5 myself as well, payed around $200 for the windsheild

i say pay it yourself......
if your deductable is only $50, y not j/ pay that out
of your pocket? and less hassle w/ insurance
however if your deductable is $300,
y go thru insurance?

nevertheless, if the windsheild is cracked becuz of rust
forming, and forcing it to crack, i've heard you
can claim it w/ insurance, but i'm not sure....

I'm assuming your mini van is domestic which will make it easier.

Call up the auto wreckers, get a windshield for $50, call up auto glass and have it installed for $50.

I've done it 3 different times on my old Car. They charged $50 for any window, didn't matter if it was front windshield, passanger window or the stupid small passanger vent window.

Because regardless of what the insurers say, it will impact your premiums - most people do not make a claim anymore unless the amounts are big - you end up paying more in increased premiums over even just a year than the claim otherwise.

With a history like yours I would find an insurer that lets you make the first claim with no impact on your premiums then only make that claim if you really need to. You never know when something is going to happen - accidents are just that - accidents - nobody plans to have one but they happen.

This is true (at least in Ontario). Insurance companies automatically qualify you for a "no-claim discount". As soon as you make a claim (regardless of whether the claim resulted from something that was your fault or not), your status isn't claim-free anymore, so they can legally remove that discount. This loophole allows them to raise your premiums even when you are not at fault.
