Today, me and my buddy when to a honda dealer to try out the 06 Civic 2Dr. LX...
The performance is great, 140hp really working hard here.... in terms of performance, better than 05 version....
But the interior is a big disappointment... I hated the electronic speedometer and too many cheap plastic!! I was like what? isnt this a japanese car? is starting to feel like a american car~~~

Hahha you nailed it right on.
OP, let me remind you. Its a CIVIC gosh its to compare to the low end economy vehicles. Want luxury? pay more cash for Infinity, Acura, and Lexus. Remember, imports are not cheap. They're built solid

we all know import tend to have better interior quality... but i was shock to see this level of plastic from a Civic...
my focus is doing well, thx!

ah Civic...I used to own one, a 91' basic model liftback I think it was the last generation which was Made in Japan, the thing gave me no problem, the Panasonic battery lasted till 99 compare to the battery of my 94' Accord which only lasted 2 years.
I must say Honda has to cut corners in order to keep the price affordable but the resale value and the engine is simply amazing.
My local garage gave me an offer last year As is for my 94' Accord $4000 which my friend has to pay $30 for someone to tow his 94 Ford Taturus away.
If you ask me, Honda out live Ford anytime and if I have to buy anything cheaper, I rather take anything Korean than American..Period

this is not a comparison between honda and ford... just comparing to the 05 and 06 civic model, i find they really cut corner here... A mazda 3 is starting to look real good now!

I don’t see any irony. Just because he is the Ford Focus owner that doesn’t mean that he cannot complain about Civic interior.
May be he was expecting too much from Honda “Focus”.

This is too funny... someone says something about not liking the Civic and everyone jumps on him.. yet someone starts a thread about not liking the domestics (say, Focus, Cobalt, etc) and 99% of the RFD population rides along and cheer along.
Oh well, typical RFD car forum thread.

If you think Civic is just another Focus, you're nuts. Also the premium you paid for a Civic isnt to get a luxury interior. If he said its interior is CRAP then i wonder what he would say about the Focus interior.
Civic isnt a luxury vehicle. But its interior is ranked (not my opinion) much nicer looking than the Focus. Its overall package is far superior.

Crappier. What the heck is your point? Its not just me thinking its uglier and crappier; read all the reviews, all other ppl's opinions not just some Focus owners.

Point being, you don't know who the hell is he, what his other cars are, so quit making judgments about him, on information you do not know is factual.
Bottom line is the Civic interior is pretty plasticy and looks tacky. The door handles are oddly shaped. The cover for the cup holders looks very out of place.

It would still out-sell a focus

That's not the point, the point is that it is, regardless of the price, regardless of how well it sells.
Everyone's going in circles with this.

"It's only 10cents"
"But it's not sweet"

i think he meant Korean...he said he would even choose Korean cars over American cars...Japanese is not even in the discussion...he meant that there is no doubt that he would choose Japanese...but he would even settle for a Korean car before he touch the American car...

ppl digress so greatly...
dont compare the civic interior to a focus' interior
compare a civic interior to each individual's standards for an interior..
then if it's crappy, it's crappy..
i havent seen the civic interior, so i dunno..

This is one of the stupidest threads in the Auto section I have ever read. How somebody stating that the new Civic has a plasticy interior digressed into American vs Korean automobiles, shows the mentality of the some of the people around here. Oh well at least its entertaining...

I'll agree that the civic interior is very weak. I especially didn't like the steering wheel. I love the interior on my mazda 3 GT, nicest interior on an economy car I have personally seen.

LOL that's too funny. Are you trying to disagree that Honda Civic is Japanese Ford Focus? I don't care about other reviews and rankings since 99% of them are paid by manufactures. Also Honda Civic has nothing to do with Ford Focus interior in this topic. OP was not comparing to cars. What he said was just based on his feelings and there is no need to prove it otherwise since your feelings cold be different.
I know exactly what he meant by saying plastic. I drove Civic/Corolla//Mazda 3 and from 3 of them Mazda’s interior had better feeling it was not so “plastic”. Since many people have different criteria’s then buying cars, it is immature to argue about style and feel as I said before everybody’s taste is different.

Just want to make it clear.... I very much know what to expect from a Ford compare to a Honda....
In fact, i own a 96 civic before this focus.... focus is for someone on a budget and it works! I didn't pay much for it and lasted me this long, I am very satisfy! In terms of a 06 civic, I really expected.. a civic LX with auto will cost me $26000 tax in, i expect better plastic... if you dont agree, thatz fine with me! But if you think a person that own a 2000 ford focus have no right to make bad comment on a 06 civic, than you need to get a new brain....

Yes the new civics have a lot of plastic inside, not only is it cheap plastic, but it feels like cheap plastic. The plastic has this ugly texture that make it feel even cheaper. About the body style it rocks great looking car.

Dude you never get the point dont you?
Right from the begining, i told you the premium you paid for a civic isnt to get a luxury car. Get over it, for an import 26k will only get you a great overall economy vehicle. Also your complains about the interior is abit out of place because moving from the crappy focus interior you should feel much better now. The new Civic is worth every penny, if you want the best looking interior then get something else and forget about every other characteristics of a car.
Seriously, interior is your thing then get something else then.

I just mean it's hard to compare two cars if you haven't driven both

Funny how many of you are reaming him because one of his many vehicles happens to be a domestic Ford. He's simply judging the Civic against its own merits.
Generally speaking, economy vehicles are getting more and more of the plastic look and feel. Quality adjusts to price.

My point exactly; When an American car has a "plastic" interior they say get import. Then when you go and and realize the the import's "plastic" interior sucks too they say get luxury.
If you're going to bash American cars, how about driving them and giving us a qualitative review of a car instead of us having to live with your damned self righteous Asian condescending pro jap car attitude.

Hey you cant come to RFD and talk about how good a car really is as most people here are too cheap to figure out that there more to a car then its interior. Its called no leaving you on the side of the freeway at 3:00 am in the morning ;)
I'm not saying this is true about all domestics, but.....
I dislike the new Civics interior and I dislike the old civics exterior, some day someone will do a swap and they will get both ;)
I personally would love to see the UK Focus (mk2 ?) what an awesome ride that is compared to the civic, but again something I would lease and throw out after having fun with.

You're joking right? What else is a Honda Civic interior going to be made out of??? Hardwood, maple or walnut; with titanium components??? Now really, you have to be joking, right?
All lower-cost cars are made with plenty of plastic in the interior. And all Civics I've ever seen are made with a mainly plastic interior. Doesn't matter if it's a 1993, a 2003 or a 2007.
Even higher cost cars still use lots of plastic. Other materials can't be formed/shaped easily to go along with modern cosmetics of modern vehicles. Sure luxury cars may have wood and metal accents and adornments in their interiors but there's still more plastic than those materials I believe.
And what's with the lame/unwarranted knock against "american cars"??? Many American cars in similar price ranges have markedly higher quality plastics than Hondas do. And they usually look nicer too, especially compared to the 90s Hondas with their generic cookie-cutter interiors, across the board

did anyone read 2000fordfocus post or what, from what i've read he's saying compare to last year civic the new civic is cheaply made he's not compare it to any other brand or make, just to last years model ( civic),.. he's not looking for luxury in a economy car,.. he's complaining about the price..
