Newbie Question on "Suits"

Hey all, i just bought my very first suit for myself.

I am a total newbie when it comes to suits and im used to "loose" fitting clothing. When i went to buy my suit the sales person assured me that the pants could be altered.

The jacket fits great, snug but not tight and the pants fit "just right" as well but i was wondering would i be able to increase the waist size, the pant legs and the crotch area?

While it fits just right, im a bit worried that if i gain weight (which im sure i will) something may pop.

Is the store "Stitch it" any good?

Would it have been better for me to have bought a suit with bigger pants?

Could i have bought the suit, but gotten a larger pair of pants off of another suit?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, i spent a pretty penny on this suit and dont want it getting screwed up.....

I just bought a Hugo Boss suit and I was talking to the guy from Harry Rosen and he mentioned that a suit that fits perfectly can be taken out about 10lbs or so. Im not sure what the limitations are for being taken in though.

Suits are always "tight" (aka not loose) in the crotch.

A suit is formal attire. The crotch can't be hanging down to your knees like your favorite pear of jeans. Wear briefs or boxer briefs.

if you bought a suit of the rack it can definitely be altered.. look at the insides of your pants at the rear middle seam, you should see some excess material there, that a seamstress or tailor can "let out" by unstitching and re stitching.

yah you have to make sure theirs extra material to alter it larger. If there isnt enough material and the tailor adjusts it larger, the creases will be off and the suit will look uneven. With suits its always better to buy larger and alter down.

Also the OP asked about taking pants from another suit, and thats fine, but keep in mind there are thousands of patterns out there. There are also lots of different materials, and styles. I would advise only using pants cut from the same cloth, to maintain that custom cut you want. If you got it from Harry Rosen, take it back to them and have their tailors work on it.
