Stupid GTA thunderstorm...

Left my car with windows 2" down and sunroof tilted up... Ended up with about 1cm of standing water in the footwells and everything wet (leather seats, dash, all the books and papers in the map pockets, etc.)

It drove home fine and I sopped up as much as I could with towels. Time to go for a long, warm drive and then get some silica packs!

just make sure everything works fine, esp electrical connections/wires that run through the floor of your car ... stuff like speakers, door lights etc ...

Actually I was thinking... this weekend might be a good time to have a good professional detailing done. Get the leather all cleaned and treated, shampoo the carpets, etc. I'm worried since I'm leaving for a week and if the car isn't clean and dry, they're a definite mold risk (car parked for a week with windows up.)

Does anyone have a direct reference or recommendation of a place in Toronto that could do a good job Saturday or Sunday ie on really short notice? What's a reasonable cost, around $300?

(Car is a 2dr 1999 Camry Solara with leather seating surfaces.)

The harsh weather knocked out a set of lights near PMall. That was just scary. I almost got T-boned because I treated the red light like a 4 way stop and the dink going East thought he could just keep going. There were a lot of bad drivers near that intersection. People using the right turning lane to try and jump queue, than changing into the proper lane in the middle of intersections and wondering why I get pissed off at them.

Thanks to Kevin at http://gtaindetail.com/ for getting back to me with some suggestions as to what I should do to get my car back in shape.

It's now sitting with a 30pt home dehumidifier running inside and I'll let it run for awhile, then get some disinfectant and leather treatment in place tomorrow.

A friend of mine left the sunroof in his Jeep Liberty open during a thunderstorm last month. He took an afternoon snooze and a neighbor rang his bell and woke him when he noticed the sunroof was open.The interior was totally drenched. The next day the electric windows stopped functioning and the horn went off by itself and stayed on. It took a few days to totally dry out the seats and carpets. Electrical problems turned out to be just blown fuses.

I've done this before, left it open overnight, and teh seats were soaked.

That's umm...bad. There's alot of electrical wires that runalong the floor and over time those wires will get corroded.

Didn't the guy that owned the dodge sucks website located in Toronto have that problem and the car went bokers and dodge would not warranty it?

At least, your car was not partially under water like mine did in that big thunderstorm that collapsed the road. There were tiny snails on the fenders after the flood went away.
And, it costed me $500 to fix up the car problem after that.

i thought it might have been fun driving through a nice big puddle. Seeing as how a land cruiser infront of me did it, i decided the same for me. Needless to say, $500 later i'm back on the road.

I think I recall seeing a water catching silica bucket an can tire or superstore or something.

I was thinking of picking one up for my car after I steam clean the carpets, so I don't have to crack the windows...

I came back from my trip and the car was fine... Those silica buckets at CT are so overpriced! I just used some 3lb silica bags lying around from some electronics shipment boxes at work.

The dustless cat litter would be a cheap alternative.

It is just silica beads.
