Shouldn't shoes be one of those things that you should try on before buying?

Looks like a decent place to get them, but it's not Canadian based. And they only seem to sell a variety of sneakers.

The prices seemed a bit lower and then I noticed the "USA Domestic Customers Only" disclosure at the top.

www.sears.ca has some selections, same as http://www.snaz75.com/

also

http://canada.zappos.com/ (10$ to ship, not sure about tax/duty/brokerage)

maybe he/she lives in a tiny town?

don't just ask for a site that sells shoes
there are thousands of different types of shoes
do you want sneakers, runners, cross trainers, basketball shoes, volleyball shoes, sandals, dress shoes, casual shoes, etc???

I've used Zappos numerous times, although I've always had them shipped to a US address.

They are the best online retailer I've ever dealt with. When it comes to price matching, imagine a store that is the exact opposite of the worst Staples. That's Zappos!

I've ordered from them. Great service (they followed up after the order), but the import duties/taxes were pretty expensive. I was charged USD60 on a USD 170 pair of shoes... I suspect most of that went to brokerage fees. I read in another thread that the duties depends on the value of the shoes, so not everyone would be charged $60.

It's impossible for me to find good dress shoes in my size so I went ahead with it.

I would never buy shoes online. Even different shoe models from the same manufacturer of the same size fit differently.

I seem to remember that duty on shoes was 20%. If the shoes were manufactured in the US (and few other countries with which we have free trade agreements) it is 7.5% duty.

If you get things shipped UPS/Fedex they typically charge around $30 in brokerage charges. If you can get them to send it USPS, when it gets delivered here, Canada Post charges $5 for brokerage.

OK, going by that I guess duty (7.5%) and taxes was around $36 leaving $25 for brokerage and other fees.

Do any of the sites posted here ship by USPS? Online shopping from the US really sucks, because of all the brokerage fees, plus taxes.

Oh, and

Based in Vancouver, but some of their stuff are overpriced.

More for special ed sneakers and all that.

You'll be charged duties calculated from the value of the item you are ordering. They actually call it an "import fee". The system will tell you the exact amount once you have entered the destination as it varies from province to province. You will not be charged anything else - I wasn't when I ordered from them in Sept.

I have a hard to fit foot.
Locally, when I need to buy shoes that fit - I have a choice between a few cheaply-made throw-away stylish shoes at WalMart and Payless , or extremely expensive grandmother-worthy styles at the specialty shops like Canadian Footwear. Or, I could spend a month's wages on having a shoe made from scratch. There is no in-between.
Every other local bricks-and-mortar store only carries the medium or "B" width shoes, even if that shoe is offered in a wide by the manufacturer.

What's worse, I find that there are fewer wide shoes on the shelf locally NOW than there were even a few years ago.

And so I've had to cross the border to buy shoes.
I feel like I'm living in a third world country.

All of the Canadian based online shoe retailers seem to suffer from the same problems the local retail stores have: NO wide shoes at all, not enough selection (in wide OR medium) and anything in specialty sizes by designer brands priced way above the head of the average consumer.

SoftMoc has the occasional wide shoe in stock, but you can't search for wide sizes using their search engine.

Browns shoes (http://www.brownsshoes.com) doesn't carry ANY wide shoes, even in styles that are offered in wide by the manufacturer.

J. Siegel Footwear (http://www.jseigelfootwear.on.ca/) sells designer brands in wide, but there is NO search engine and no way to search their entire catalogue by size. Then there's the expensive prices.

Zappos may be an american retailer, but they carry a huge selection of shoes in all widths and sizes in all prices. When they have a sale, I can buy two or three properly-fitting shoes that cost me the same as one designer ill-fitting pair off the shelf here in Winnipeg, Canada duties and shipping included.

Returns are a pain, and I'd lose money having to return shoes. But the pros outweigh the cons for selection and fit. If Zappos had a local bricks-and-mortar store, they'd make a killing - if only because of me.

Pricey shipping though

And don't bother with Cnd Zappo. That site blows ****ing goats. Doesn't even have 20% of the selection as the US counter part.
