I just got an email from eBay saying that I won some e-gold. I'm not sure what e-gold is, but apperantly, I won it. At first I thought it was a phishing email but it looks like someone is using my eBay account. Thankfully, they didn't use my PayPal account to pay, but I just changed that password in case. Now, I'm a little worried about my feedback. Where can I contact eBay to tell them that I did not buy this item?

Upon further investigation, I found PM's in my account:

Buyer: i'm interested to buy egold. unfortunately dont have 50 positive feedback only 11 positive feeback but in 100% rating. and i have UK verified paypal. if you dont mind maybe we could do a business. pls msg me via ebay msg service. thks

Seller: Ok np please go ahead.

Buyer: hello, i pay it already. pls check your paypal and this is my egold account 3539967 . it;s good to deal with you. i hope a good positive feedback from you. thx

Seller: Received payment please provide e-gold account details ??

Buyer: 3539967 here is my egold number. thx and pls leave positive feedback for me. thx

Seller: E-gold sent. Your batch number for confirmation is 67047658. Please leave me positive feedback and I shall do the same.

The eBay listing is below.

I've also made this post to tell everyone, change your eBay passwords! I just made mine my WPA key for now since its like 30 characters. That should be secure!

wtf.... They used your account and then asked the seller to leave them positive feedback? Why would they do that? And they didn't try to use your paypal account or anything? That's really strange. Are you sure it wasn't someone that you know?

Edit: And what the hell is this e-gold business?

Yeah, I thought it was strange as well. I definitely don't know the person and have never given my eBay password to anyone. The paypal address that the item was paid with is a co.uk address and I don't know any Stuart Blakey from the UK, or anywhere for that matter.

I may be wrong, but I thought e-gold is for some role playing game...

From the e-gold website, it just looks like it's a form of online 'currency'.... but why would people pay $25 USD for $20 USD, even if the currency wasn't invented?

E-gold is an online currency backed up by real gold, I think you can even order a shipment of it when you have over a certain amount. Anyways from what I understand it’s a legitimate currency however it has been abused quite a bit and there are little countermeasures to deal with scams.

Also for some reason scammers are attracted to e-gold, probably because you can order disposable debt cards.

Anyways here is a lot of information about it on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-gold

The last time I used a public PC was when I was in school in January. And eBay only keeps you logged on for a day. But that could be possible if someone did it right after you got off the PC.

Any person contacting you about anything involving money from UK or Europe is a scam.

Even funnier is the people who post regularly 'alerting' others that this is a scam! Like, duh!

I like how the seller is also selling

FORGIVENESS

-guaranteed-

No judgement, no penance just plain forgiveness from one person to another.

lol I just got positive feedback because of the person who hijacked my account. This is the oddest thing ever.

Have you contacted eBay?

You probably should ASAP.

You might not find the feedback funny when the guy who hijacked your account reverses the payment. The seller will then come to you to cough up the money.

Yep, I already sent an email(modified version of this post) to eBay. A couple hours after I sent the email, my PayPal account access was limited until I entered my credit card number and changed my password and security questions. I wonder what will happen next.
