Just got my cell phone bill, and I was shocked to find that my bill was $2 more than I expected.. no, I hadn't gone over my minute limit or called long distance or anything. One of the features I use, the "mobile browser", went from $5/month to $7/month!

Am I missing something here? Can they do this? Or did they inform ppl. on the last bill (but I just didn't look at it closely enough, wne the amount of $ I needed to pay was as expected)?

they prolly had an insert in your last bill informing you of the increase. you most likely didnt read it

That may be the case.. I'd like to know, though, before I call them to cancel this feature (it's already almost half way through my billing cycle.. and I don't want to be on the hook for the increased rate for the prorated period!)

Its somewhere in your TOS agreement - they reserve the right to change rates without telling you, but usually have the courtesy to do so - like the last guy said, on your bill.

Any Bell subscribers know if Bell included a notice of this price change on the last bill?

I've always felt that Bell doesn't give a damn about upsetting its customers, or frankly giving a damn about their customers. I've never really seen any evidence of them trying to treat their customers with respect and courtesy.

It's the big reason why I have no Bell services.

I am with Bell and never saw it but then it may not apply to me. I had all of the features disconnected except the message center after a friend of mine pressed the wrong button and was connected to the internet for 5 hours and did not know it.

They incresead the connection fee from $6.95 to $8.95. I'm not a Bell subscriber so I can't tell you if they notified their customers.

lol., Dude, get over it. It's a couple bucks. Just learn to read through your mail-outs on occasion. Might save you another couple bucks by the end of the year ;)

Hey JEDI I responded to your post in the HOFO forums as well regarding this.

Either way, the mobile browser is Bells most competitive feature.
Bells HUP program is the best as well. ($200 instant rebate on any phone every 2 years for a 3 year extension).

Rogers charges $5 for a lousy 2 MB (overages are huge revenue for them)
Rogers charges $7 for 6 pm early clock (Bell is still $5)
They have a horrible HUP program with a huge admin + hup fee.

Telus mobile browser is limited to 100 sites of their selection.
Telus HUP program is very limited as well.

and yes the sys access fee is $2 more for obvious competitive reasons.

that's gay. can you still opt out of your agreement, b/c they violated the agreement? or is the increase in price effecting a feature and not the plan itself?

You can get up to $150 rebate on 2yr plan with Rogers. And u're not stuck. Every 18 months actually. And than you can renew and bargain for a better plan.

bell's plans are insane expensive and their phones are a complete joke

Maybe so. But I find that it really just doesn't work that well (maybe it's just my crappy Samsung SPH-A660 phone..) - can't login to gmail, most of the time sending MSN messages times out.. maybe I just expect too much from web browsing on a phone..

I really wasn't using it much (mostly just to read the Globe and Mail), and thought of cancelling it.. the price increase is the final nail in the coffin.

My plan has that fee included, thankfully..

Huh???

Phones I agree with issue with CDMA, Telus has the same problem with getting stylish phones.

Dinosaur tech?? WTF EV-DO is out.

Plans yeah. But thatīs debatable everybody feels like they are getting screwed with their pants on with their cell phone plans.

Ok. Sorry to disagree with you. Your on the standard retention plan. You called in to relations to get that. New customers cannot get that plan.

Also take a look:.

http://www.digitalhome.ca/content/view/1394/51/1/1/

If that were the case why is everyone not on Rogers then?

Bell + Telus together (CDMA) > Rogers + Fido (GSM) at the end of 2005.

We can update ourselves when the 2006 stats come out next year.

Everything is not about the phones. Alot of younger crowds these days are just amazed by these SE and Samsung D phones which have useless features/mp3 players. I still see enough people have the k750 + and stilll use their Ipods. If your a practical user then EVDO has more benefit then a camera/mp3 player or if you need a Tri-Mode with Analog functionality for Up North or places with low digital coverage.

I can say for new customers for ANY provider its hard to get a good plan. Existing customers for ANY provider can obviously get a better rate/deal through retention/loyalty.

Also, Bell has the best corporate plans which is why I currently use :)
I still have 1 rogers line just to let you know I'm not biased with them. I just cant stand the I hate Bell and I'm with Rogers people. I cant say much about Telus which I heard has the best coverage/customer service.

Keyword: 3 year extension = suck

BELL is HUP $150 instant rebate on a 2 year term.

Once you get a Hardware upgrade or retention deal with mobile browser included then you can get yourself a nice EVDO phone and itll be worth it.

Customer service maybe. Coverage is debatable. Telus and Bell practically share the same towers in the remote areas. If you do get different coverage or areas which you donīt have coverage it is probably in overlapping/major areas like toronto or vancouver.

I have the unlimited mobile browser, as well as the SAF included in my plan ... I guess I don't get affected by the price increase then

Has anyone's EP1 plan changed in price?

Agreed. EVDO rocks! I used to have a samsung a660, and it SUCKED with the 1X mobile browser. EVDO is so much faster than that ... try it .. u'll get hooked!
