Looking for Dave and Barrys resellers in Canada, anyone see a pair of the $15 Starbury shoes that he has out right now in the States? This is a HOT deal!

Apparently people are trying them and putting them through rigourous tests because they are pretty affordable, and they are actually holding up against Nike, Adidas, and other outdoor court brands. Can someone confirm this as well if they've tried them? I'd really like to know how much wear and tear these things can handle compared to regular shoes.

*Edited: Here are a few of the options:

They are actually manufactured with the same materials and processes in East-asia as Nike, Adidas, Reebok, etc...

I wouldn't mind the white ones! :D

Starbury Cyclones look like New Balance classic runners. Looks ok to me... but I am skeptical about the comfort and quality... I would try em if they are $15.

...These shoes are a steal at $15 a pop, but not to rain on your sunshine but b4 you have people running around looking for a Dave & Barry's in the states I think you meant, STEVE and BARRY's. If you look closely at the pics in the lower right corner it says "Available exclusively at STEVE and BARRY's."

SNB = STEVE and BARRY's (maybe we can add this to the glossary)

For those who don't know what STEVE and BARRY's is, its mainly an apparel and now a shoe store at select malls in the Northern & Eastern US that mainly sell low cost mid to low quality apparel at ridiculos prices like $2.99, 4.99.9.99, 15, etc...I've got a few pairs of b-ball shorts for $5.

AFAIK there is a SNB in Buffalo @ Walden & in Detroit @ Fairlane & all other big malls in MI.

Now in case your wondering how the he** was was I able to read that fine print in those pics...some say its a gift some say a curse.

Bah Steve and Barry's, thanks for the fix. Yeah, i'm still searching for a reseller in Toronto area but nobody has the shoes yet. If these things hold up on an outdoor court for 1 year +, im buying at least 2 or 3 pairs right away.

Nah that's alright, I prefer to try them on and inspect the quality of materials and craftsmanship before I go ahead with any pair usually. I do these rigourous tests with the model shoes they usually have up on stands to test for torque (flex) and front/back sole flexing. I also like to see where the seams are so that I can determine how quickly (or not) they will break.

So nobody here has any experience with the new $15 Starburys? I'm looking for a report from someone who's worn them using Google but no luck (I think I last searched a few days ago, so who knows, maybe someone wrote a review). All i'm getting is the articles about the prices of the shoes themselves, not customer reviews/feedback.

Any help on that is appreciated! :)

it's a long thread, but it might be worth the read for you:

http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=558406&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

it's about a guy in new york who went to buy the starbury shoes on the first day it came out....

i'd say most of the reviews on them have been positive, and although they might not last as long as jordans/melos/etc. (which hasn't been proven), it's probably a better value for the money....

i actually have a pair of the black starbury ones in my room because my parents happened to be in new jersey during the week the clothing line came out, and they were lucky to grab me a pair because all of the other styles were sold out....they definitely feel nice, but i haven't played ball in them yet so i can't give you a review about how durable they are...

what's wrong with having both?

i wear jordans and af1s too, but it's hard to pass on decent-looking shoes for $10...

my friend is in buffalo now and i asked him to pick up two pairs of the crossover shoes for me...hopefully they'll have it in stock...

Finally wnet to S and B''s to try on a pair of these Starburys B-ball shoes last week, and they feel okay better than most shoes @ Payless. I wasn't expecting much for $14 shoes. They didn't have any of the white low cut ones available.

Overall, they're not too sturdy, & not a whole lotta ankle support so you won't want to be doing too many crossovers in these. But I mean you get what you pay for. I tried on 2 pairs but opted to get a warm up suit instead since it was the same price.

I also heard something about Stephon Marbury donation a portion of all sales to a charity he's affiliated with.

Well probably turn the $15 shoes into $30-50 shoes, still reasonable.

Well, considering they can be had for $15...that is unreasonable.

But compared to your average Nikes, it is a bargain. The quality has been tested vs. other top brands and is apparently equivalent.

although im an adidas guy, im okay with the starbury's.
the only addition i did would be an athletic-style insole.
the one they use is too thin.

I go to Steve & Barry's ever few weeks to take a look around and see if they have anything new. Their clothes are very cheap compared to other stores. The fit is meh at best. The quality ranges from low to medium.

I do not buy their shoes as I've found them to be very meh. The style of the shoes are fine and they are comfortable. But the quality of the material they use to make all their shoes (not just the bball) is pure plastic and vinyl. Without the logos, you would not be able to tell whether these shoes were from S&B, Payless, or Dollarama (if they had shoes).

The first time you walk into S&B, you just want to buy everything because you're so thrown off by the price tag ($9 for hoodies, jackets, jeans, etc). But the appeal goes away quickly as you find their stuff isn't as good as its been hyped up to be.

i've been to the US the last two weekends, and stopped over at S&B's both times...everything in the store is $8.98, except for t-shirts which are 2 for $15.

i was gonna pick up a pair of starbury running shoes, but they didnt have my size, quality wasn't the best, but for $9, you can't go wrong.

joeym, I picked up those same RED/WHITE/BLACK one's recently on a bus trip to B-lo, funny thing is I got the last pair of 11's and me and 1 of my buds removed a pair off the mannequins and put it in a SB2 box and told the cashier we couldn't find the right box, they smiled and said okay. Best $17 I ever spent. Now I need to find some red laces.

They recently introduced a line running shoes and Ben wallace line of basketball shoes.

I have the same Starbury 2 also. I have the white/red and the black/grey. Haven't even worn the white ones yet because the black ones are still good. Bought about 8 pairs among the family when I was down in Florida. My brother-in-law actually manages the store there, so he was able to grab some from the back.

The shoes are fantastic for the price and actually hold up on the courts. But you really have to try them on because the quality control is not that great.

Steve and Barry's pants are a steal at the prices but again you need to try them on because the sizes vary quite a bit.

i got mine around the new year. they were on sale so a pair was priced at $10. plus i love the colors. i wanted to get the special edition version.
i almost ran out of pairs because i wear a size 11.5
this is almost like the same pair ben wallace wore when he was in chicago.
a friend bought the big ben's. the black/red and black/white. i really didnt like it because of the cap toe shape. the starbury toe shape is better.
if they bring out more versions, i probably would still get some.

Where can I get these in Downtown Toronto?...Sorry to break it to you Yao, and not sure if you've been following this thread, Steve and Barrys is a retail store only in select US states and not in Canada. The chance that they'll ever set foot is Canada, or Downtown T.O is even more unlikely as they prolly don't have resources to expand and considering they are going into receivership and about to file for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
