On Aug 25th,evening I got a notice at my door saying my housing corp will be doing garage cleaning and renovation. I have to move my car away by 7am on the 28th. That's less than 3 day notice and not even business days. That's insane.
It's also says that if I don't remove it by 7am,my vehicle will be towed away at my expense under Municipal Code 915!!
Funny, how I just came back from a vacation on Friday. Poor people who are still away from their weekends!!!

Is there some kind of regulation I can check online. I'd really like to see if what they are doing is legal. >:(

Do you not sign a lease? Have you reviewed if for this situation?

Just move your damn car! You have lots of time to do so. Don't worry about other people who are away, let them worry about their own cars.

Woah man talk about bad timing. When I used to work at an apartment building and they were doing parking garage renovation they notified residents way in advance.

It takes you three days to move your car..... you know it does move faster if you drive it instead of push it. I know gas is pricy but come on! You can't afford enough to move it?

the problem is not moving it.
the question is, to where he is supposed to move it for 2 weeks while the place is being renovated.

and he's arguing that 3 days is way too little notice to arrange for something like that -- especially those who aren't even there to see the notice because they might be away for the weekend, or possibly even longer.

Well then maybe, instead of crying on the internet and looking for ways to get around it, he should be looking for a place to park his car, that would seem like the smart thing to do.

I didn't realize it was a 2 week project, that changes things.
I thought it was only for a couple hours.

I think the guys point is, what about people that are on holidays? How would you like it if you came back and your car is gone? Plus yea, you gotta find a place for your car.

OP...

You asked about what you 'legal' position might be...again I ask you...what does your lease say about these things as that would define your legal rights, no?

Cut the guy some slack mate.
If the only thing you're going to do is attack him for seeking help regarding a perfectly legitimate concern (i.e. the legality of the situation), then you're not helping -- so stay out of it.

Sure, this forum might not be the best place to look for explanations regarding this matter. However, forums are a place for discussion and there's nothing wrong with asking an "off-topic" question in a part of a forum that's labelled "off-topic".

P.S. I've noticed that you've posted a link to Toronto bylaws and municipal codes -- that's a bit more helpful.

I think I would go absolutely baslistic if I was on vacation and I got served a notice 3 days before the act was to take place. I've been away on vacation for 2 weeks already and if that was my condo garage that was getting renovated and they expected me to fly back to move my car, theres going to be problems.

I think 3 days is ridiculous as people are not able to arrange parking spaces for two weeks in that short of a notice not to mention Toronto has bylaws where you cant park your car on side streets past 2am. The condominium corporation must offer you an alternative or at least suggest a place where you can park your car within reasonable distance to your home. Also how big is your garage? For my condo we have 4 levels of parking and if it needs to be powerwashed they give you a schedule weeks in advance telling you of the days that each level and each section will be washed. 3 days is stupid. Talk to the management and see what they have to say about it.

When the people who are on vacation get back, they can fight the charges by stating they were on vacation and weren't given sufficient notice.
