Oh my...
The paranoia over terrorism, etc. has gone too far. It's become ridiculous. People are now living in fear, even though there are far greater risks threatening us like guns on the streets, drunk drivers, etc.

that was retarted, see how ignorance leads to so much crap? if only some idiots that think they know everything just learn a little bit of they new age of computers and games, that whole thing wouldn't have gone so far, he probably still think people only play solitare and mines on their computer, i bet if he was actually meeting a clan member from CS and not a guild member from Wow they would have arrested him right away when they asked how the game was and he said that it was ct agaist t, and even a lot worse if he asked more about the game like bombing and hostages

In western world is it now very hard to control the masses by religion, politics or blah blah, so now the best way to control them is through fear. Make them live in fear, fear of losing their way of lives, fear of losing their 'freedom', and give them a group 'evil' to point their fingers at. It is ironic if you think about it.
Back to the post, those questions were just stupid. 'Do you think govnt are too powerful' - ok how many ppl going to say no??
'What you think about 9/11?' Well its a tragedy like many other things.
'What do you think about war in iraq' man!
Good thing i dont have an ipod, i usually don't carry any electronic stuff on me, except psp, mem-stick sometimes.

It's funny. How much money was wasted by paying the salaries of the guys involved in this incident the extra time spent by the officials to search thestuff of a guy who accidentally dropped his iPod in a toilet :|.
I guess in this world you can't be too cautious.

It sounds stupid because we don't have a fundamentalist sort of mind.
If I was on the plane, yes, it would have been annoying to go through all that security and delay, but *shrug* better to be safe than sorry. We live in a different time. If something -had- of happened on that plane, people would be spouting stuff like 'why didn't they do anything when they first found it?', 'why didn't they take the plane to a different place than the terminal?'

But the world today isn't any different. The only difference is that everyone fears. Isn't that the goal of the terrorists, to induce fear in people? Make them clamor about and to make people's lives miserable? That's exactly what they've done. No liquid on the plane, take off your shoes when you cross the metal detectors, etc, etc. The terrorists have been pretty successful at what they do.
The irony is that the Western world says it won't fear, but the paranoia is evident that they do.

Oh -no-, I have to pack my perfume in my CARRY ON? Whatever shall I do? I have to TAKE my SHOES OFF? God help us all!
Do you really think the terrorists are sitting in their homes saying to themselves, 'haha, look at those brits, we won because they can't bring water on board!' They want a body count, they don't want to scare people.
Come on. If you think this is making people's lives -miserable-, you should really go to a third world country and see how they live their day to day lives.

How the third world country lives their life is irrelevant. It's about the freedom and conveniences that you have come to enjoy and that has been taken away from you because of paranoia. What if you need to drink ample amounts of liquid or else you become dehydrated? Sorry, you can't bring water on board. What if your eyes become dry and you need your eye drops? What if you were one of the ones who couldn't bring their laptop on board and you had an important client meeting and no access to complete some necessary papers?
I traveled with many co-workers to training a little while ago. Some of the males with middle eastern and south asian backgrounds had a lot harder time getting through customs even though we all had the same travelling documents, reasons, and were going to the same place.
So yes, I think the terrorists are laughing at how westerners can't bring water on the plane and have to take off their shoes. We are afraid of them and what they will do next.

LOL Oh man if this happened I wouldn't be surprised if they arrested the guy and threw him in jail without a warrant! Guess in hindsight it was a silly thing to do but I would bet that while that was unfolding it could possibly have been a very big threat.

This is so true. I agree. Think of this, in a free and democratic society the government has no real power over people. Somehow people have to lose their freedom and the best way to do that is to criminalize everything. Drug laws are a good way to get many many people into 'the system' to be tracked. Now we have all this monitoring.
Do you really think the terrorists are sitting in their homes saying to themselves, 'haha, look at those brits, we won because they can't bring water on board!' They want a body count, they don't want to scare people.
Actually the FEAR OF THE BOMB is more powerful than the bomb itself. If an airplane gets blown up 300-400 people might die. But if 10,000,000 people get inconvenienced by all the security then they are ever time they travel reminded about the global issues at play. Think about it.

I would hope if they found something electronic, and unknown, in the toilet they would take drastic actions. Its easy for us to say after the fact "its an ipod". But it could just have easily been a bomb.
Combined my wife and I fly at least once a week. I'd take a strip search over blowing up anyday.

Yup it is. But I stand by what I said.
I remember being 12 and sticking a knife inside my Vic20 and carrying it on. No one found it. I also rember being 14 and flying home from North Carolina with a carry on filled with fireworks. Again not stopped. At 16 I brought home a butterfly knife in my carry on from ther Netherlands, not found. At 17 I brought back a fake grenade from Germany, not found.
17 years latter I actually fear to fly. If they find somthing in the crapper, they better land and find out whats going on.

Uh, the whole point of terrorism is that it brings fear into people's hearts. They want people scared for their lives, and to make them unable to enjoy day to day life.

Who the hell drops their $300 ipod in the toilet?? Am I missing something here!??! I don't care if it was a small nano that 'slipped' out of your pocket.. If I was on a plane and saw an ipod in a toilet, I sure as hell would alert the nearest stewardess, and hope that stewardess would take the precautionary action that they have been trained to take.
Oh, and that guy is a complete moron. Does he like jail?? Why would he admit to knowing how to make a bomb...
"I have a degree in physics. I'm not an idiot."
Hey pal, I'm good at physics too, and I HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO MAKE A BOMB. You have to look **** like that up.. You have to have interest in bombs in order to know how to make them. You don't just stumble across a bomb recipe in US Weekly or Time...
But mouthing off to that customs official really takes the cake. If I was that official, I'd order a cavity search on this fool in a heartbeat.

I don't understand these people that think 'give an inch, take a mile'. If we give up our water, the next step is body cavity searches! What a logical thought path. And the last time I checked, they are still supplying drinks on board. It's not as if the plane is completely free of water.
If they think I'm carrying something, by all means, I'll strip down to my skivvies.

I think you will find that we don't oppose security measures that actually make us safer, but rather the ones that just make us *feel* safer. This is just more than an inconvenience to passengers.... it diverts resources away from mitigating the real threats (ie. undocumented catering workers, unscreened cargo shipments, etc.). All we have seen so far are reactionary knee-jerk actions based on some event that has already occured.
-because of 9/11, they ban sharp and pointy objects, which was then modified recently to allow some exceptions.
-Richard Reid tried to blow up a plane using a shoe bomb.... they develop a shoe fetish. Imagine if he had hid the bomb in his underwear.
-Two Russian women allegedly brought down a plane using explosives stuffed in their bra.... they started groping women's breasts, which was eventually rescinded due to the volume of complaints.
Most recently, the DHS themselves, came out with a report that explosives in shoes are not detected through x-rays. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/08/15/Terror.plot.security.ap/index.html
But the TSA continues this practice because it gives the appearance that they are doing something and it makes Mr. and Mrs. Once-a-year traveller feel safer.
