Ok, so i was just thinking some odd randomness again.
For all of those ppl in HR or of interviewing/hiring, what are you thoughts of people who are overly-friendly (sucking up).
Do you like it? Do you hate it, Does it make you want to hire them more/less?
Just curious.
What do you think when someone compliments your shirt or something? do you think this person is nice? or this person is sucking up?
Just looking for thoughts, and possibly some funny stories :)

I'd definetly be weirded out if I someone complimented my shirt when I was interviewing them, that pass's a line.
Unless maybe it IS a really nice shirt, but a really nice tie might be better.
I had someone bring me some bannock once to try to impress me...that was strange but he got hired.

lol on the shirt thing i was referring to a females shirt or something lol. i never thought about the interviewer being a guy... lol but a tie would be acceptable compliment? I'm the type who would compliment only if i really liked it and not just to say it for the hell of saying it.
Whats bannock? You didn't think it was overboard? Did your judgement of him go up with the little gift?

With some experience you could pretty much tell if someone is sucking-up or is truly sincere. On more than one occassion I've had the interviewee or their parent bring me a thank you gift for taking the time to interview them. That really makes you feel uncomfortable.

"Sucking-up" will never work. You must be genuinely nice or an extremely good actor ;).
Execs, upper-levels hear crap all the time and they can tell what's real and what's not.
Be genuine.

Sucking up won't get you far by itself (in fact it maybe detrimental) - but combine that with hardwork, a good personality and it's the complete package :D
Of course one should suck up in moderation ;)

Agreed, sucking up just does not work in the workplace environment. People don't care for the bull, just be yourself and you'll be ok.

lol i wasn't meaning i would be sucking up. I was just curious on what ppl thought of those getting their @sses kissed by those wanting a job. I think it's funny. But i was wondering if there were any extreme cases that ppl have had with them sucking up to them.
To the above poster with the parents sending a gift as a ty note, i think thats hillarious! Those are prolly the types who call in sick for them too!
