Hey guys

I got 10 days of vacation in early Oct. I was wondering where I could spend my vacation. I'm a young single guy.

I'm thinking:

Montreal - not sure how great it'll be in Oct.

vs.

Argentina/Brazil - never been to S. America but heard there's lots of partying and hot chicks!

vs.

Europe (choose 1/2 countries) - I LOVE Europe but I'm thinking whether 10 days is too short. I have vacation in April the next time, for about 2-3 weeks.

I'm willing to spend the money, can't see it costing more than $1000 for 10 days in either of these places.

ditto with :arrowu: , $1K's gonna get you squat unless you stay domestic.

Did this a few years ago (I'm a ten-day tripper myself, just to get the itch out)...:

Fly in to Amsterdam, stay in a hostel 3 nights...that's about as long as you truly need there (I always burn the soles outta my shoes when I travel, so I see a ton in a short period).

Train to Belgium, and take in Brussels and Brugge (or other cities - they're all close). I personally couldn't stand Brussels, and Brugge was ok - interesting beers. Total: 2 nights. Stayed in B&B's at both locales.

Train to Paris. Stayed in a cheapo hotel (had a bed and running water). The hotel wasn't flashy, but when in Paris, who the hell is staying in the Hotel??? 3 nights.

Fly out of Paris. Most airlines won't charge more (and some charge less) if you fly into one area and out of the other. No worries.

I did this trip alone as a backpack ordeal. Whole thing prob cost $1.4-1.6K...

Amsterdam was a beauty of a city...plus the extra-curricular was fun too.
Paris: sweeeet
Belgium: ok...not my fave, but good for an in-betweener.

Other 10 day trips I've been on:

Prague-Vienna-Budapest (my fave trip of all-time)

Glasgow-Edinburgh-London (recent-awesome)

Madrid-Toledo-Barcelona (excellent)

All of these, though, if with someone or alone, will destroy your measly $1K budget.

unless you're planning to stay in hostels or other budget accomodation, $1K is barely enough for 10 days in Montreal, let alone Europe/Brazil (as mentioned)

Book a 10 day cruise.

I will be booking a 10 day cruise for mid October. Total cost for three is about U$1900, NOT including air. We will be driving down to the NY port instead.

hmm...well for Europe I'm thinking about $500-$600 for airfare,
$20-25 per day for hostels, and some for food and other travel.

To be honest, actually I don't even mind paying $1500 but I'm wondering if I'll be able to cover that.

I think the main thing, for me right now to decide, is whether Montreal (white water rafting next door in Ottawa would be cool) and Brazil/Argentina are worth it from your experience for 10 days.

In Montreal, I could either hostel it, or pay $50 a night for a hotel using Priceline.

You really need to be more realistic. Brazil / Argentina costs well over 1000$ in airfare alone. I've just checked and a round trip to Paris will cost 1082$ round trip through Air Canada. Even a trip to Montreal cost me about 350$ for a round trip.

My trip to Montreal earlier this month cost me 1000$ in total with the hotel and flight only taken in account, and that's WITH using Priceline and for a 7 day trip. This does not count any food or any activities. You won't really be able to eat on groceries, so food will be very expensive.

A trip anywhere is well worth it, but not when you are trying to nickel and dime it at an unrealistic level.
