Had an interview with an accounting firm on Monday and have not got a call back yet. :| How long should I wait before I call/email them to ask about the status of my application?
( I know it usually takes a few days, but waiting is such a pain)

I often try to set that expectation when I leave by asking when I could expect them to make a decision on a candidate.
It's only wednesday, I'd wait until Tuesday, especially during the summer, lots of people on vacation.

I would give them a full 5 business days (not including the day of interview).
Some are faster than others, but I think this would be the average turnaround time for a professional type position. It all depends on how many positions they are filling, how many applicants they must interview and as the previous poster mentioned, the person responsible for making a decision to move you on could be out of the office for a few days this week.
Good luck!

what position was it for?
i submitted a referral for a full time jr. associate position for my friend early last week. she got the interview with the recruiter on Tuesday, and on the spot, the recruiter scheduled a second interview for her with a Partner for the end of this week.
i agree that 5 business days is appropriate, but my firm is usually fast with their responses (within 1 day).
if you haven't already, send a thank you e-mail for the interview, and indicate that you look forward to hearing from them.

You should send a follow-up thank you letter in order to gain the interviewer's final attention and this also demonstrates your commitment.
