If there is anyone out there willing to help me decide what to buy, I'd be grateful! I really know nothing about computers and use mine for internet (dial-up, high speed is not available),lots of email, putting pics from my camera onto a disk, a little bit of word processing. I really don't need anything much. Right now I have a 5 yr old dell 800mega hertz celeron. If I buy this one at staples, I get 10% off tomorrow only so it is cheaper than dell as I need a printer and want the lcd monitor. Are there things I should be thinking of? It's $499 and does have the monitor and printer with it but I couldn't cpoy that part, just the basic computer part.

5 yr old dell 800mega hertz celeron

It seem right with me and your need. Besides, if you were able to tough that long with the celeron then you be ok with that.

Will it work with Vista? Yes but not with all the bells and whistles for that price. ;)

Your good for another 5 years :D

For that price, with monitor and printer, not bad at all.
If that's all you really do, surf, some word processing, and download pictures from your camera, you're laughing.

Thanks so much! I'm feeling better about it now. It's just hard to make these decisions when you know nothing and the write ups about the computers are meaningless! I did forget to mention that my kids play cd roms (jumpstart kind of stuff) they're too young to direct my computer buying yet but I'm sure they will be able to help me before too long! Thanks again.

It seems appropriate for your needs.

Though in the grand scheme of things it is not a particularly powerful computer, not that you need a powerful one for those purposes.

For $499 the monitor will probably be crap. (My LCD cost $450 by itself.)

I would upgrade the RAM and hard drive to something bigger; those are cheap upgrades and will benefit you in the long run, especially the RAM.

It will also probably come with some cheap inkjet printer and you will have to pay through the nose when it is time to refill the ink.
