I just got my E6600 today and I had previously been running a P4 506 in my system to hold it over until I got the Conroe. My mobo is the P5W DH Deluxe and I placed 2x1GB of PC2-6400 DDR2-800 OCZ Gold memory sticks in it. My problem is that when I load my computer my POST is showing that I am loading PC2-4300 memory and not PC2-6400 memory. I know my system is capable of running the DD2-800 otherwise I would not have gotten it so I do not know why it is loading at DD2-533 instead. I have been thinking this might be left over from the P4 "underclocking" the memory down.
Can anyone help me fix this?

It's not running your memory's speed at it's specifications, it's running it to match the CPU. Your CPU runs at 266Mhz (266Mhz x 9 multiplier) so the memory runs at 266MHZ (DDR2-533). If you want it to run the memory at a different speed, go into the BIOS and set it to do so.

The previous poster pretty much summed it up. The RAM is rated to work at 400 FSB which translates into DDR2-800 or PC2-6400 (all three mean the same thing). You can change the RAM speed in BIOS to whatever you want as long as it's within the RAM's ability to run. Most OCZ PC2-6400 will have no problem running at 450 FSB (DDR2-900, PC2-7200).
One thing to remember - when (and if) you overclock the system to over 350-360 FSB (3.15GHz-3.24GHz CPU) it will only run with the RAM divider at 1:1, that is if you set the FSB frequency at 350, then your RAM should be set to 700, if the FSB is at 400, then the RAM should be set to 800 and so on. There is a bug with the 975x motherboards right now where any higher RAM ratio will not allow the system to boot up. Hopefully ASUS will come up with a BIOS fix or something.

How does one change the RAM speed in bios and am I to assume that it is currently set at 400 FSB or am I way off?
