Hello!

there was a post last month where a number of people had been scheduled to write the CRA - Wonderlic Personnel Test for a Client Service call center position with CRA.

Anyhow, I have received the results from the test I wrote…and passed it.
I will be called in for the interview in a few weeks.

I was wondering what type of questions to except…as I honestly have very minimal experience with interviews.
Has anyone else passed the test?
or..anyone else working for them currently or had the interview in the past….that can help me out..?

It says on the statement of merit criteria the following skills will be assesed:
Competencies/Abilities/Skills:

Information Seeking Techniques (pass mark 60%)

Effective Interactive Communication (pass mark 65%)

CRA Values (pass mark 65%)

Client Service Orientation (pass mark 65%)

Dealing with Difficult Situations (pass mark 60%)

Dependability and Reliability (pass mark 65%)

Any help on how I should prepare or questions they will ask will be appreciated!!

Thanks a lot,

I've never applied for the specific position you're interested in, but having gone a few interviews with the government, here's my advice:

1. Look at the department's website. Read through the annual reports (they can also be found on the Treasury Board website) and note down any special projects they may be involved in. Mention them in you interview.

2. Definitely find (and MEMORIZE!!!) the mission statement, or objectives, or values of the department. Every department has its own set, and it came up on every interview I had.

3. Look at the applicable statutes and understand generally what they say. What is the statutory role of the department? What can it do? What can it not do?

4. Keep in mind that they will have to test you on every single skill listed in the job posting. Think of what you can say about each skill to convince them to give you a high score. Think of the type of questions you would ask someone if you were testing them for that skill. Practice your answer.

5. Generally, no matter how easy the answer is, take a second or two, look like you're thinking about it, and then give an answer in a confident manner. It gives the appearance that you're really thinking about the question and your answer.

Good luck!

the government likes to ask what you would do if another employee wasn't doing their work or missing deadlines

if you're applying for a call centre then expect to be asked how you would deal with a difficult/irate customer (caller)

study interview questions in all the areas they're assessing you in. ie information seeking techniques...

As someone that was successfull in an interview just two weeks ago:

Did they give you any specific questions to answer in advance? GO back to the jobs.gc.ca website and review the posting... what skills/assets do they ask for? Be able to say how you would perform them. What are the tasks you will be performing? Be able to tell them how you would be performing these tasks as an employee. ie) what would you be reviewing/ determining, what group of the public would you be dealing with. See my summary of my interview in the thread I made. It's on the first page.

talked about... looking up the VIN number @ the ministry, checking prices online, reading consumer reports, checking the insurance rate for the make/model, identifying how often i'd drive/how many passengers, feul economy, checking if it was etested and certified...having my mechanic look @ it.

on the "buying from a dealer" part I talked about reviewing the rep of the dealership, building a rapore with the salesman, telling them what I was looking for (price range, feul economy ,features ect) and using them as a resource/ building trust.

so i know why i got zero on my wonderlic, someone accused me of cheating. Apparently someone told the invigilator that i was pre-reading the questions before the test started and i was talking to my buddy about it. The invigilator then wrote a note and stuck it on my test paper so that when they sent the test paper to ottawa for marking saying that i cheated.

1) If i was cheating wouldn't the invigilator stop me and take the test away and disqualify me right away? what is the point in letting me to the test wait 4 weeks for the result and give me a zero.

Anyways, i'm appealing the mark and going to get it remarked. What's funny is that i'm working for CRA coop at the moment. oh well i talked to one of the union reps to help me out, i'll update tomorrow to see what happens.

but cheating.. give me a break. 12 minutes to cheat. at least disqualify me right away if you think that, some many problems with them saying i cheated.

watch when they remark my exam, i'll have a failing mark!! wouldn't be surprised.

Congratulations, their screw up probably gaurenteed you the job, even though there will be extra wait and hoops to go through as a result. Don't worry, after the appeal you will probably be found innocent and receive the job, regardless of what your real score is. That's the government way.

I have applied for International Tax services offices position with CRA. I have cleared Wonderlic test. Now I have received email to appear for test to evaluate my 'Information seeking Technique' skills. Has anyone given this test. Please provide any information on what kind of questions should I expect and if there is a book / website I can prepare for this test.
