Hello guys,

I need some advice about pursuing my mba career. I am an engineer and currently looking to get my mba at either top 3 Canadian or the top 10 US schools.

I'd like to go to the top US schools since they have better opportunity and reputation and allows you to work internationally. The drawback is the investment is a lot and i mean well over 150K for 2 years. Most people say this is not a problem as you make it back in less than a few years.

On the other hand, the top Canadian schools, the investment is about 50k less and is good enough anywhere in canada but of course doesn't open as many doors for you.

What do you guys think.

how many years of practical work experience do you have from your engineering degree.

If none, i think both are a waste as you will have a difficult finding a job that your education qualifies you for due to lack of experience.

If you do have at least 3-4 yrs under your belt, id go with what makes the most sense for you financially.

this is a very good question and I struggled with this dilemma a year and a half ago when I went back to school.

I was offered admission to a few US schools. They were solid but nothing like Wharton or anything. I would say top 20. And I got into the Canadian schools as well.

The most important question is what does the school offer you and how does that fit with your life and career goals. If you want to work internationally and have a certain 5 year career plan, see if the US schools you were accepted into fit with your needs.

I think if you got into a top 10 US school, wanted to work internationally and travel abroad, the US school would serve you better.

Canadian b-schools do have international recognition but I would think that a top 10 US school would be more strongly recognized (pretty sure).

I looked at my life and realized I wanted to stay in Canada, be with family and friends and hopefully start a family here. So a Canadian school was the best fit given the ROI.

I asked the same question to bschool prof and he said. Depends on where you want to work. If you want to stay in Canada, look at Queen's, Ivey, Schulich,. If you want to work internationally.. then US schools are best choice. that being siad have to be top 10 us schools...not just an no name brand school....

Also look into schulich/kelloggs partnership... they actually give you two degrees, however, i think the course is a bit longer...
