They say : liquidation!! Seems very interesting for a coffee lover like me...
But I heard on other forums that the Melitta one:one coffemaker was giving cold~warm coffee all the time. Is it true ?
Will the pods be available for a long time? And what about the coffee itself?

If you like coffee like you say check out the newish Tassimo system. The coffee is very good from what I have sampled so far. It's super simple as well, you just throw in these little UPC coded packs for tea, coffee, espresso, hot chocolate etc...
I am just waiting for the price of the unit to come down a little...($179 currently)

Yes, I've read the reviews on this unit and it really sounds interesting. But as you, I too am waiting for the price to drop. When you factor in the cost of the coffee, cappuccino, etc. packets, it actually way cheaper to just walk down to the corner coffee shop.

Try doing a search. Its been discussed many times.
I have the Melitta One:one. $49.99 is hardly a clearance price. It could have been picked up at that price last year during a sale or something. People in the states have been picking these up for under $10 at clearance.
However, I have one and I love it. The coffee is great, comes out hot not luke-warm (that was the early first-gen version, has long been replaced). Melitta pods suck so you will have to get aftermarket ones. There are many communities online. Try singleservecoffee.com
Good luck, you will enjoy your Melitta if you decide to get it. Remember, its suited for a single coffee drinker, who wants no clutter. If you have a largish family, you are better off getting a regular coffee maker or a Bunn/Keuring single coffee system.

Thx for your input porphyra. It is very appreciated. I think i will buy the Melitta and go for pods shopping on the web. Because the Bunn/Keuring are too expensive and I want the availability of the pods system.
In case I missed it, the new One:One Coffee Maker unit should gives hottier coffee now ?

Just a note from my perspective - something you may want to consider if you are used to making a larger travel mug to take on the morning commute, is that the One:One system makes single cup sizes *only*. That is, if you want to make a travewl mug (which generally holds the same as about 2.5 normal cups), you have to run the thing through twice (or 3 times even), with multiple pods, etc.
This is why I went with the Home Cafe system instead - my home cafe maker has three different cup size buttons on it - small mug, regular mug, and travel mug. If you use the travelm mug button you need to load in two pods, but it's still way faster and easier than having to run it through twice, changing pods in the middle. This and this alone is why I like the home cafe system better than the One:One system.
Something else to consider, for people who think pods are more expensive, is it is very easy to *make your own* pods from any coffee. You just need the right size filter, put your grinds in, fold it shut, and pin it with a little straight pin. I make about 8-10 pods every Sunday for the upcoming week in this fashion, and store them in an airtight container so they stay fresh. It only takes about 10 minutes and it is way cheaper than ordering specialty pods online - plus, the coffee is fresher too (I grind my own), and you can use whatever brand you want.

Great id! Are the pods you make are for one:one system ? Which kind of pion do u use for it ?

We have had the Melitta one:one and would buy another if this one broke down. If you are a 1 - 2 cup a day drinker, it is the way to go. Coffee is hot. My wife drinks decaf and I like real coffee which suits the pod system. I find the coffee to be is good as well.
I find the retail Melitta pods to work well and at about 40 cents per pod - not that expensive. We find them at Zellers and Home Hardware.

Which pods do you prefer? Overall, would you say the coffee from one:one is better than drip machines, or comparable to bodum ?

Like I said, I own the Home Cafe, but there's no reason you can't make them for any system - all you do is get a filter, put some grinds in it, press it into the pod holder so that it makes the right shape, scrunch the top shut, and pin it. It's not rocket science :P
It takes all of 30 seconds a pod.

If its the Black and Decker home cafe, then I would highly advise against it. Too many issues. You can read the forums over at SingleServeCoffee.com. Lots of good information. The Mr. Coffee version seem to be better.
The best option seems to be Senseo, by Philips, but it is only avaliable inthe States. You can get one from Target/Walmart if you happen to be there. The next best alternative for the price is Melitta (which is available in Canada).
I dont find a big hassel with travel mugs. I run 2 pods through (one after another) and hold the travel mug at an angle underneath. Still all done in less than 2 minutes and faster than brewing a pot.

There are a few things you have to keep in mind. A coffee pod will have a thinner mouthfeel that you will have to get accustomed to v/s a drip and especially a French press (Bodum).
Once you get used to that, its all good.
Also, there is no substitute to fresh roasted/ground coffee. So no pod will ever beat it, no matter how good. Except you will most likely buy your coffee for your drip machines in a larger pack. This is where pods win favour since they are indivdually sealed in Nitrogen, they retain their flavour better.
Lastly, you should know that French press (Bodum) is the best way to have coffee. So if you have fresh roasted/ground coffee in a french press, it will blow away pretty much everything else. But this is not convienent to say the least and again where pod-coffee is quickly finding a niche.

If you bought one coffee a day from the local coffee shop at $2 a coffee this machine would pay itself off in 3-4 months. After that you are looking at roughly 50¢ a coffee. That would save you money over time.

Ah yes. I forgot about the stovetop Bialettis. I had it once and it was great. However, I have heard some people complain that they just cannot get it right. Never owned or used one, but I have heard many a good things about it.
Also I would not recommend the Tassimo right now. They just cannot seem to get enough manufacturers to produce the t-discs for them and the choice is painfully slim. Since I don't care for the other fancies (and honestly I doubt that the Espresso/Cappucino it produces are remotely comparable to a good barista at a coffee shop), a simple pod-coffee maker works for me.
I have been eyeing the Keurig though. They seem to taking on new coffee suppliers all the time and its much better represented in Canada (v/s pod coffee where most vendors are US based and either dont ship here or shipping is terribly expensive).

......for 2 (1 as a gift) @ each/$39.99 - 20% coupon + 16 box bonus javapods! ($31.99 each) -but IMO, it's a so-so machine....kinda leaks water & the coffee ain't great... >:(
my keurig k-cup system is WAY BETTER in every apsect, but then again the keurig machine costs $200....i guess itz true, "you get what you pay for".
that being said, tho...no point in buying cheap *****...if you're happy with it, or not going to use it..... ;)
No doubt the $200 Keurig is a great machine. In fact its going to be my next buy. But the Melitta is a great value for money machine. It only leaks water if the pod is not inserted in the pod holder carefully. A little attention while loading the pod solves that problem.
And for the coffee being so-so, its true. But that is Melitta coffee. There are literally tons of other pod makers out there that make great coffee. I myself never drink Melitta coffee, but it brews good coffee just great.

Sounds like way too much of a hassle to me. When I am on the go in the morning the last thing I want to be doing is satnging around nursing the coffee machine. With my Home Cafe I put the mug under, hit the "Go" button, and walk away. Later when I am ready to leave I grab the mug and go out the door.

I have the Senseo, I have the Keurig B50 and I've used (for a couple of weeks) the One:One. My favourite, by far, is the Keurig. They have done this machine 'right' - its just amazing. You should expect to see some price drops over the next few months because Keurig is bringing out the B70 so the B50 seems to be clearing out in certain stores.
I like the Senseo over the One:One in general, but honestly it really isn't like there's a striking difference. The same pods will produce slightly different coffee in the two different machines, but if you've only got the one machine then you're not going to know that, are you? Honestly you'll be very happy with either of these. The next step up would be the Krups 1010 which I hear is excellent, and finally the Bunn which is generally considered the best pod machine available.
As someone else said, go to singleservecoffee.com and singleservecoffeeforums.com and you'll learn everything you need to know.
The single biggest issue in Canada is getting good pods/k-cups shipped cheaply. coffeewiz.com is expecting to have shipping to Canada available in the next couple of months and that will improve selection and decrease price significantly.

I finally bought it (the Melitta One:one) at my Canadian Tire local store for 39.99.
So far I found the coffee to be enough hot and the machine work pretty well as advertised. The 2 blends I tried so far (from the one:one box) were a bit disappointing tough.
I am looking forward to buy pods from the web. Any suggestions?

Try playfaircoffee on Ebay. They are canadian and the Distinctively Your's coffee isn't bad (esp. the Cafe Roast and Colombian).
There are lots of retailers in the states. Podhead.com, betterpods.com both ship to canada. The latter has expensive shipping but lots of different coffee from various manufactureres. Podhead roasts and packages their own coffee but are quite expensive, although the coffee is reputedly one of the best.
Good luck.

I have a french press, a pod maker, and a drip maker, they all have their purpose.
For very decent quality brewing for one or two people on the go, the pod systems can not be beat.

Not really. The Bunn My Cafe is teh most versatile and takes all sized pods hence why most pod manufacturers state Bunn. This is the standard pod size though, and even though Melitta uses a smaller less standard size, you can squish the pod in the pod holder.
Just make sure none of the pod paper sticks over the lip and it fits in completely, or else you will have a leak down the front. I use the larger standard pods all the time and have never had an issue. (I even fit the baronet monster pods in my melitta - works but not recommended :P )

I purchased a one:one last year. They were clearing them out from Linens and Things. The machine came with 12 boxes of pods and I think the whole thing cost like $40.
Anyway, the coffee maker produces coffee that is hot-ish. Definately warmer than other coffee makers I have tried, but not boiling.
The coffee itself is not very strong and takes some getting used to, especially if you're used to Starbucks, or if you currently have a drip coffee maker.
But overall I like it. It's easy to clean and easy to use and makes relatively good coffee.

I just finished the coffee pods sampler that cames with the Melitta One:One machine : they all disappointed me badly. Very rubbish coffee! They taste like something in between the Instant Nescafe and bad coffee drip... arome are usally very light, to non-exisant!
On the positive side, I love the way One : One operate and simplify my mornings : hot coffee in less than 2 minutes, no dirty messy pot to clean, no coffer grind splashed on the counter, small footprint in my kitchen. Coffee is warm to really hot.
Thanks porphyra for the links on coffe pods, but do yout think it's really worth for me purchasing some pods on the web, considering I was trully disapointed with the included pods ? What makles more sense : is it the coffes inside the pods that make My Bunn and Keurig more popular by other peoples, or is it the machine itselft makes better processing of the same coffee grind ?

It is absolutely worth purchasing pods off the net. The difference is night and day. I tried some of the Melitta pods and hated them. Do yourself a favour, go and read some of the forums at singleservecoffeeforums.com. Contact David from betterpods.com (now bettercoffee.com) and ask for some free samples. You specify the types (dark, medium, light) that you like and he'll ship you some to try.
If you like Starbucks you probably like a darker/fuller type coffee. I would recommend the BetterPods (Gourmet Cafe) Sumatra, French Roast and Costa Rican. They also have a bunch of other brands that they sell that get great reviews.
Now to answer your second question, although I haven't tried the Bunn, from what I've read pretty much everyone agrees that the Bunn will extract more/better flavour from the same pods - as compared to what the Melitta will do. However, putting a crappy Melitta or Senseo pod in the Bunn still won't make it produce good coffee.

QFT. What Stressman says is true. A good coffeemaker can only do so much. If your coffee sucks, then even a $1000 imported espresso machine from Italy wont be able to do much.
A lot of companies give free samples. David as mentioned before is a great person, and very helpful. He will more than gladly send you free samples.
Also, playfaircoffee (ebay or their store in Mississauga) has sampler pods: 20 of them for most of the DY flavours. They also carry the slightly more expensive Higgins and Burke's pods (both made by the same company: Mother Parkers). Give them a shot.
Also Reunion Island, I believe in Oakville, has a large following on the coffee forums. So far, it has carried mostly by US vendors (Bettercoffee). But if you can locate them, or call them and find out where you can buy their pods locally, you will definately like their coffee too.
Yes Melitta now makes larger adapter/pod holders. You can call melitta and request a new unit. Sometimes they ship it for free, and other times you have to pay $4.95 or something. While the pod holder is a little larger, most people have not noticed a difference in coffee extraction over the previous smaller holder. Only that now you can be lazier and just slap it on.
A tip to getting better and hotter coffee: When u first turn on your coffee maker in the morning, do a small 5oz blank run. It will warm up the cold insides and your cup. Now after its done, put the pod in the holder. There should still be some hot water in the pod holder. This will pre-wet your pod. Most people claim that prewetting the pod, especially with warm/hot water results in better extraction.
So while the machine heats up the water for the second extraction, you pod has a chance to moisturize, you will get a slightly larger volume in your cup (due to the pre-wetting) and your coffee will be hotter, since you already warmed up the unit with the blank run before.
Like in all chemical analysis: A blank run is essential before sample runs in all types of anaylsis; it works for coffee too. :cheesygri

They offered me some of their lousy pods by the same time!! I'll wait for it (the adapter) before to buy anything on the web. Meanwhile, do you guys know of any local store that would sell coffee pods of any sort ? Zellers is my only choice from what I know. I am living in Quebec city, 2.5 hours and 300km from Montreal.
It also seems that Maxi and Canadian Tire are clearing the One:One machine. Will that means it will be harder to find pods for Melitta ?
Also, I am curious... does anyone know if it exist any machine to make these pods and how much it cost ? I am starting to beleive those pods are the future for coffee!
And again, a big thanks to Stressman and Porphyra for the tricks!

Remember, once you buy it, you are at the mercy of those disks (i.e. their pricing, etc.) why not just buy your beans fresh, ground them at home and stick em into a stove top espresso maker. mmmmmm
