At shopper's, they're offering Red Rain, which is a private label I believe of the product Red Bull. Red Bull usually retails for about $2.50 to $2.99 per can while SDM is selling it right now for $1.99 with a buy 1 get one free promo. This means $1 each can. Great for those who actually drinks this stuff ( I ocassionaly do, right before a dragon boat race or exam)

Plus, mix it w vodka and you get red bull-vodka, a crazy gets you up and down drink. Of course, you 30+ year olds won't understand why we drink this. By the way, i'm 23.

Cheers

search seems to show these are cases of 24, which is good deal @ 14.99... however, search also indicated it may have been discontinued in Markham Costco. Can anyone confirm? Thanks in advance.

dont mix alcoholicd drinks with energy drinks...it has been banned in the clubs for a reason and it states that on the energy drinks itself..a couple of cases have been registered where teenagers have died after taking that mix in the clubs..I dont know the scientific reasoning behind it..but JUST DONT MIX ENERGY DRINKS WITH ALCOHOL!!

Red Rain and Red Rave seem to be the same (I've gotten Rave at Costco, Rain at Real Canadian Superstore). They're both imported from the US by Cott, and their packaging is near-identical. This article about their introduction (http://www.bevnet.com/news/2005/03-24-2005-canada_energy_surge.asp) says "Red Rave is made exclusively for Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd., while Red Rain is available to its other retail clients. Loblaw Cos. Ltd. is among those carrying the Red Rain line."

I personally like the Red Rain/Rave products better than Red Bull, I think RB is too sweet. It tastes like Rockets candy. The Red Rain/Rave drinks have a more complex flavour, more fruity.

Of course, you 30+ year olds won't understand why we drink this. By the way, i'm 23.

The risk is what makes the drink even more alluring. You feel like cheating death with a taboo drink that has caused deaths in Europe.

'The problem with caffeine is that the effects can vary, so it is difficult to say what is a safe level. High levels of caffeine can be dangerous for people with high blood pressure or anxiety disorders. Not much is known about taurine and glucuronolactone, but high levels of them could affect the body'

The student from Limerick, Ireland, died after sharing four cans of the drink with friends before a basketball game.

At his inquest, the coroner called officials from the Austrian-based company to give evidence about their product. They said that no adverse effects had been proven in connection with the drink.

The inquest jury later ruled that the teenager had died as a result of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, but called for an inquiry into high-caffeine energy drinks.

Can anyone verify the SDM deal? It would work out to $24 dollars for a 24 case. Not a good deal if you are looking for 24 cans, but those of us that want 2 or 4 cans I guess this is perfect.

The one closest to me had the 4pk's on sale for $3.99 which is a buck off from regular price. Walmart normally sells them for $4.94 and Loblaws sells them for $4.99.

The SDM at Sherway Gardens (Etobicoke) was selling 4pk's of Tab for $7.49 but I haven't seen this deal at any other SDM. Other SDMs were selling it for $8.99, $10.49, $10.99. Different price everwhere. *shrugs*

There is a "light" version of the Red Rain. SDM sometimes has it in stock.

The reason you are not supposed to mix red bull and vodka is because vodka slows your heart down, while the caffeine in the energy drink speeds your heart up, or its the other way around.. One slows it and one makes it faster, which can cause death.. Because its the two working against eachother..

Where did you hear this? That sounds weird.. I heard it's because when mixed together, the energy drink makes you feel less drunk than you really are. When you feel less drunk, you drink more. When you drink more, you do more stupid things.

Woo sweet deal on Red Rave - the Costco stuff aint bad, awesome price tho

1. Alcohol is a depressant and as such is slows down your CNS/Brain, etc. as well as your heart rate and all that.

2. Caffeine is a CNS Stimulant, speeds stuff up

So yeah that statement is corrent...doesn't mean I wouldn't mix them though :D (just know ur limits or u may die and not be able to waste your money on RFD deals...and well...thats the worst thing u could ever do!)

Is a guys sexual peak really at 18!? I missed it already!? :(

edit: Oh yeah, one of the biggest dangers is what was already mentioned I think - caffeine makes you more awake and makes you think you can drink more so people overdose that way. As well, they are both diuretics and will make u pee alot, increasing risk of dehydration...also very harmful...I dont think its the actual "affect" of combining them that is harmful. Infact, new studies show that the combination can help with strokes! (atleast in Rats...)
