It's not bad.
No firmware updates that I could find.
I've had mine for quite a while now and it works with pretty much most divx/xvid stuff so far. There's a few that it wouldn't work with but the Philips DVP642 had no problems with.
Quirky memory card reader setup, it doesn't (at least mine) show the pictures full screen, always with a border. You can zoom in but have to do that for each picture.

I just got mine home, there were only two left when I went to Canadian Tire in Heartland Town Centre. Both were open boxes, so, hopefully, I got a good one.

Going to test it now and see if everything is okay.

But I have read mixed reviews about it.

But, hey it was only $50

This is the regular price for this item at Superstore (however it only has a 14 day return policy compared to 30 at Cantire).

I have this player and enjoy it. Excellent divx support and the USB can support a Fat32 formatted HD in an enclosure.

Edit: Sorry I thought "Curtis" when I saw Koss. It's a different model between the two stores. However unless someone needs CF card support, imho, the Curtis model is superior.

I have just tested the unit. It is a decent unit. Plays everything I threw at it and the Memory card readers are a definite bonus.

But as others have mentioned.

The Remote is crap
Loading XviD and DivX files take a long time

Definitely a good buy for $50

Does any one know the code for programming universal remote for this player?

The memory card reader is terribly slow. Otherwise, it's a good player.

The Region Free hack works

Turn on unit
eject disc, until "no disc" on screen
press 16719 on remote
The region number should be displayed
press OK until region number goes to 0
then press play button to get out of screen

phillips and daenyx ;)

unless u want the extra features that most divx dvd players don't have, for a cheap divx player, i'd get the daenyx f/ TRU.

what do you mean by extra features that most divx DVD player don't have
is it the memory card reader or ?
don't know what feature the KOSS have that other DIVX player don't have?

IMO KS5121 is better unit than daenyx and curtis:
- plays almost all divx and xvid format,on CD and DVD, DVD +-
- memory slot (SD,CF I II...) I use it for pics and divx movies
- easy to set to region free:
turn on unit
eject disc, until "no disc" on screen
press 16719 on remote
The region number should be displayed
press OK until region number goes to 0
then press play button to get out of screen

I just picked up the Koss DVD player. When there is a DVD in the player, it spined very loud. I can totally hear it even with my entertainment shelf is closed. Anyone have similar problem? Do you think I have a defective one? I know mine was brand new and unopened.
