Looking for a way to wirelessly send audio (mp3 files, internet radio) from my desktop computer to my home stereo in another room, I've decided on an FM transmitter (I know, only FM sound quality, but cheap...).
I note that SourceCC and FS/BB have a range of them starting at $30, e.g.
http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Category.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=FMTransmitters&pagenum=1&sort=1
and you can get no-namers on Ebay for $15...
Anyone with experience with these things?
Know any good deals?
thanks

Good luck getting this to work in TORONTO. There are too many FM radio stations broadcast, and they are too close in frequencies.
All the FM tuners I have tried, I have returned because the MP3s get mixed in with closely tuned FM stations and sound like garbage.
If only they can im AM stereo....no on listens to AM anymore....

Agree with others, FM transmitters blow unless you live in the arctic.
X10.com has a wireless system called Lola Music System for $49.99USD
I've owned their products over the years, pretty good qaulity.
Mods, please adjust the referral ID for this LINK to the product page (http://www.x10.com/entertainment/lola1_s_ps189.html)

okay, thanks v. much for the references  - that lola system looks esp. interesting - but link is down, so will have to check back on that....
This morning (before checking back on this thread) I went ahead and picked up a USB-powered SourceCC Nexxtech model I heard good things about to try out (thank you return policies!):
http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=FMTransmitters&product=2610510&MSCSProfile=D2A27242FE5C7054CA02D1C573F248CFB125B0 670EA6EC8FFD4C827C75DEEEC191DBF3A5D71F483E750A9735 30CB69EF16CE584C53C248E3418AEBCD89780ADFBC61EB9BDD 97440C4E4838964FBBAC22616D06007C11B5246D689C159F83 413D24F2524BB824EEFB94BE54AD8738B68264EE051D2FA4D9 1771E5F4BC69F37DF602A2D1CA56EED566
and... surprisingly, it works really well! It only allows you to choose from among 7 frequencies (87.7 to 88.9, odd-numbered - selected with DIP SWITCHES - talk about retro!) but 88.5 is working v. nicely for me. (I'm in downtown T.O., so presumably right in the thick of radio signals, but that freq. is clear - at least to my stereo, with its thin little lampwire 'antenna'). Maybe it takes the right arrangement of a strong transmitter located not too far from a weakish-but-not-too-weak receiver...
but... those other systems you guys mentioned can do more (video, near-CD quality, controllable from room with stereo) for not that much more $$$...
hmmm....

I got an FM transmitter almost exactly like the ones that FS/staples/radio shack(the source) sell off ebay. Paid around $10 and got the car adapter & USB adapter too. Works great, you can choose any station that you would like to broadcast on (not predefined frequencies). No problems finding unused frequencies. :)
